WOW!
Since I was personally slimed by "Al", do I get to slap back? Do I, oh please, oh please, oh please...?!
Damn. High road.
Okay. Make that middle road.
Um...Al...I think your post may be the most ignorant and offensive post I've ever read.
(Trust me, that was the high road)
Reverse shill?
I...you...where did you...are you...what?
And...um...quoting you: "I've not seen the show but..."
That is where the silence should have begun.
(See, I didn't say "this is where you should have shut up", because it's not okay to tell people to shut up.)
You HAVE NOT seen the show,
yet feel perfectly comfortable COMMENTING on it
and SMEARING the ability and professionalism
of three people
on the basis of...their status as a "newbie", an "unknown" and someone you didn't like in one other show???
Good lord.
You're so right.
I forgot that performers are only capable of giving great performances after they have fan clubs, longish resumes and award nominations.
Please forgive me for thinking that all that matters is what's actually on stage.
And...you think someone is sick of not being mentioned on the boards? Wants to create hype?
What planet are you from?
Who are you accusing me of being?
And...um...I might be wrong, but...it seems to me that attitudes like yours are part of the reason we see great shows dying for lack of audiences or never even being produced in the first place and mediocre garbage receiving standing ovations.
Because you "find it very hard to imagine" that anything not pre-approved can be good.
Very hard to imagine, indeed.
You might want to look into developing an imagination.
It's useful in the theatre.
Jeez, my face is simply stinging from the bitch slap I just received from you, you sure told me where to go.
P.S. In case you've forgotten, in was NOT just my opinion that Hart was abyssmal in Hairspray, it was a sentiment echoed across the board and especially by the producers of the show. In an attempt to keep some shred of tact, we'll leave it at that.
Oh, did a search, and...the picture is getting clearer.
I didn't realize I was assaulting a sacred cow.
Not that I'm saying Orfeh is a cow...
She's really pretty and a great singer and she works those heels and has several good/great moments.
Just a few samples from the last few days...

"I can't wait to see Orfeh in this."
earlier still
"How many millions of times have I suggested Orfeh as the only obvious choice for Elphaba?"
even earlier
"my consolation "Orfeh fix" tonight will be catching her on a re-run of Criminal Intent"
and b4 that:
"Melissa Errico fan, I wouldn't expect someone with your name to like Orfeh."
Um...Al...you do know that you can like/love/worship/respect someone (Orfeh, for instance) and still understand that she's not actually an invincible superhero who can deflect bullets with her bracelets, leap tall buildings in a single bound, and perform every role ever written in ways that would bring eyesight to the blind and healing to the sick, right?
We can love our friends, family members, artists and politicians unconditionally, but...we don't have to love them the way an infant loves its mommy.
They aren't perfect.
They make mistakes.
If we truly love them, we won't be afraid to admit when they're wrong.
And we won't attack those who dare to suggest imperfection.
(at least not until we take a look at the evidence...)
Al, Hart has a Broadway resume longer than my arm. And she is fantastic in TRAILER PARK. I did not see her in HAIRSPRAY so I cannot comment. but I have seen her in other things and she's been good, but this is the best I've seen her.
And Ruprecht - I'm stating my opinion. If it doesn't agree with yours, fine, but seriously - relax.
They changed Orfeh's song which I wasn't too crazy about, though Leslie Kritzer said that probably won't stay.
Just out of curiousity, since I don't know when the first time you saw the show was, was this an uptempo rockish song? Orfeh mentioned on Saturday that they were writing her a rock song, so I'm curious if this is the song she was referring to.
Uh, okay, problem. This is getting .... weird. homosez, I think what Al Dente was saying was that although she has not seen the show, she's knows the extent of their talents. That's all. You are reading into it wayyy too much.
The only thing is, this is getting out of hand. Just .. okay. We all want to see/like this show. Leave it at that.
But .... I still wanna see it.
Orfeh's last song last night was pretty rocky and she got to show off some great stuff - that was actually my favorite thing that she did because she seemed to finally just let go and it was thrilling - would that be it?
The song was rocky, though I honestly don't remember too much about it for some reason. She sounded great of course but I liked the old song better...personal preference I guess.
Hmm, last song, eh? I'm not sure. From what she said when she was telling my friends and I about it, the song they were writing for her would be to replace "Do Nuthin' Day," her opening strip number.
I've never gotten the chance to see a show in previews, so this is kind of dorky exciting to me to be able track the changes that they're doing to it over the next few weeks, heh.
Edit: I really like the old song too, and I'm curious to hear the new one. There's a chance I'll be back at the show on Saturday, so hopefully, if Leslie's right and they don't keep the new one, they'll at least keep it until Saturday so I can hear it.
Oh, I'm so demanding...keep it until I can hear it, people!

Sorry for the confusion - I was referring to the song that replaced 'Do Nuthin' Day'
Thank you Almostfamous, that was EXACTLY what I was trying to relay as a response to homosez' post. And homosez, if you're enjoying the search feature, I have a few sacred cows on my farm, Orfeh being the top steer, so to speak. And Raith, that's just it, I haven't seen Hart in TP but I, and many, many others did see her in Hairspray and all I was pointing out to homosez was that she was far from the stand-out in that show. No need to get your panties in a bunch everyone. I'll post a long (and what I hope will be) a riveting review when I do actually see the show for myself.

That is just so...wrong
Please,
all I'm asking is that in the future you judge people on what they actually DO
instead of what you THINK they're capable of.
And how psychic do you have to be to know the extent of someone's talents?
And, unless I saw a different show, the part Hart played in Hairspray was about the tiniest part this side of the chorus. (there are what? 7 parts that are larger and/or have more exciting stuff to do?)
Not really surprising that you think she wasn't the "stand-out" in the show.
Maybe we should start a thread on people who were unimpressive in early roles, then went on to BLOW PEOPLE'S MINDS,
and how many of them would never have gotten the chance
if people who thought they
"knew the extent of their talents"
were directing and casting shows?
HSW, I think you're thinking of Leslie Kritzer, who was Shelly (ey?) in Hairspray - one of the smaller, supporting roles. Linda Hart originated the role of Velma Von Tussle, Amber's mom, who sang "Miss Baltimore Crabs" - a song (and role) that many consider to be the show's only weak link.
EDIT - After re-reading your post, I realized you probably already knew that, so never mind!
Exactly how much strippin' does Orfeh do, anyway?
homosez, I know what Orfeh is capable of. Have you ever watched the video of her cabaret on broadway.com? Phenomenal. And I was listening to her sing 'If I Can't Have You' today ... more phenomenal stuff. So I know what she is capable of. What Al Dente and I are saying is that we know what she can do. We know how amazing she is. And I'm not saying I'm psychic. I'm saying I know that Orfeh is a wonderful performer. Choose to think what you want. I know what my feelings are, and Al Dente will probably agree.
I agree that Orfeh sounds great, both live and on the recording of SNF. She's a really good singer, and she has a couple of really funny moments in TGATPM.
It must be bad direction.
They have her doing her stuff like it's La Boheme, and it ain't that serious.
When she gets goofy, she's great.

Al, I don't know what has or hasn't been changed in the last week, but when I saw it, she only had one strip number. It was very sexy, and she worked the pole very well. She wears some pretty revealing clothing through the entire show though, and she looks great.
Or maybe I'm just jealous cause she gets to spank Andy Karl's bare bottom every night.
-Sigh-
Oh, homosez, I just laughed really, really loudly. My cats are looking at me funny.
Although, lately I'd say I'm more jealous of him because he's with her than vice verse, heh. My friends and I (who are all on friendly terms with him) told Andy after seeing Trailer Park that we were "breaking up with [him] for [his] wife," which he got quite the kick out of.

Is there an
"I want to pretend I'm a momma cat
and Andy Karl is my kitten
so I can lick him for hours and hours"
thread?
Oh my, homosez, I don't believe there is. But if you wanted to head on over to the off-topic thread and create one, I'm not gonna lie - I would not be opposed to posting on it...

Yeah, you'd TOTALLY get a post from me on that thread. So true, man.
This thread has taken a very "interesting" turn. That being said, I did want to clarify Homosez, Orfeh is NOT on the SNF cast recording. They never made an American version, much to the utter outrage of most.
Homosez, believe me when I say, anything at ALL that seems off with the actors, be it Orfeh or any of the other 6, is 1000% the directors'(if you can call her that), fault. I'm so completely baffled by why no one has come in and replaced her yet. Now about Andy Karl...
