Not this i have any interest in seeing this show, but the Pre Sale from Disneys "High School Musical" went on sale in Australia yesterday ( Friday ).
The top ticket price topped out at $175.00au ( it does included a wildcats bag, poster and a lanyard )
Children tickets topped at $92.90au
Now those prices are for which ever show you choose to see, be it 11.00am on a Tuesday morning or the 7.30pm show on a Saturday night.
While yes i do know how much it cost to mount a show, but those prices are over the top, for what really is a childrens show.
welcome to disneyomics 101... parents will pay anything to make their kids not cry

I hate to tell you this but tickets for all shows have gone up
even disney shows.
I know all tickets have gone up and i have no problem with that, but this show is now the highest priced show in Oz history, Wicked comes in cheaper than that.
I just don't feel that High School Musical is worth that amount of money.
Greed is a human trait
It is present in all forms of entertainment & sports among everything else.
I wouldn't call it a children's show considering that the audience it has is older then what would be considered a children's audience. But, still parents will pay whatever it costs to make their kids happy.
But Disney here are selling it as a childrens show, hence most performances are taking place at 11.00am ( Which was a trend started by The Wigles ) There are only 3 night shows @ 7.30pm.
Did Mel Brooks go to Australia??
They would be dumb to not charge this much for the show.
This "musical" tv experience is one of the most popular things ever created..I have no clue why..but it is..
We can't deny that, and if it's popular; milk it for all it's worth. It's good business
In this world, it's all about supply and demand. Any business owner with an IQ over 10 will charge the maximum amount that he can to profit from his business (unless for some reason his business is meant as a charity and he shuns making money from it). Why should theatre be any different from any other type of business? If it's too much money for you, don't go. They've already figured out there are plenty of people who WILL pay that much for it, and they won't miss your money.
I agree. It's not really greed so much as the supply and demand thing. HSM is huge. My son is 5 and he loves those movies. I don't think I'd pay that much to take him to see the live show, but I might if he were a little older.
He wanted to go see HSM on ice this winter, but it was just too expensive. Had to settle for the monster truck show. God, kill me now, what torture that was.
I cant believe how spoiled kids are today. I ushered HSM when it toured and I could not believe how many parents just whipped out money when their kids wanted literally hundreds of dollars in merchandise. When I was young and went to the theater i was GRATEFUL to see the show
" I ushered HSM when it toured and I could not believe how many parents just whipped out money when their kids wanted literally hundreds of dollars in merchandise."
GREAT. Glad to know my generation won't have a big huge sense of entitlement!
Parents today think that if they don't provide every solution to their kids whims, that they are not good parents. The best parent is the one who has the intelligence to say NO!!!
I am 18 and I can't ever think of a time when I got merchandises from any show I went to. Keep in mind that I started going when I was six so I could have been pretty much in demand for all that stuff considering my age.
I am not shocked that Disney is charging top price in Oz for a ticket for High School Musical. Like it or not you can't deny the fact that it is popular and that people will pay top dollar to take their kids to see the show now that it has changed from being a movie musical to a live theatre show. I still think that this has to go back to the efforts of Disney wanting to make their shows the first ones people see when they are going to the theatre for the first time. High School Musical does that just at a younger age then something like Beauty and the Beast was able to do.

Hey Roscoe, here's an idea for you: Don't buy tickets.
Second, I want you to keep in touch. Someday your boss is going to want to give you a raise and I want you to look him in they eye and say "No thanks. I don't want to be greedy. I am just not worth that much" and I want you to report back on how that went, OK?

So you work for Disney, Joe?
Ticket and merchandise prices for all shows, not just Disney, is quite costly. That's just the way it is. Don't single Disney out. It's that way all across the entire planet.
You have 2 choices - see the show and buy the merchandise and have a wonderful experience. You know ahead of time that you're going to the theatre. So, it's not a big surprise when you get there as to how much it costs. You've known about it ahead of time.
If you think it's too expensive, then don't go. That's fine that you don't think it's worth the money. Then honor your gut instinct, and don't go. But, don't sit there and ring your hands and wonder "should I or shouldn't I," when you've all ready made up your mind.
I never had any plans to see this, all i was saying was that i thought it was over priced and just a little greedy on Disneys behalf to charge $175.00 tops to see HSM.
SH*T half of you people went ape **** when Brookes put a price of $400.00 on YF, but for Disney to put $175.00 ( thats $177.00 in US Dollars ) on what really is a childrens show is nothing more than greed.
If this opened on Broadway with those prices ( which it just might, if Disney can get those prices else where, you guys will be next ) you would be saying the same.
You know if people want to pay that much, good luck to them. IMO i just think thats over priced.
I have never, ever complained that ticket prices are too high, so don't lump me into the "Half of you people."
I saw "Young Frankenstein" in December and paid, I think it was $110 for my ticket. Yes, I knew that top ticket prices were $450, but I didn't pay for that.
It would never occur to me to complain about something that I have no control over. I just don't think that way. My mind doesn't operate that way. If I walk by a merchandise stand, and I think it's too expensive, I just continue to look and then walk away. Same with ticket prices, if I think it's too expensive, then I don't go.
Disney, like any other theatrical producing company is a business. They are in business to make money. For you to single Disney out as being greedy, is terribly unfair and onesided.

I give up.
Yeah, I think at this point, it's wise to give up. Because what you are saying doesn't make any sense.
No worries, though. We still love ya.

and just wait until all the children are asking where Zac Efron is. I guarantee you will have stupid parents not knowing that this wasnt the movie cast and demanding their money back
