Collaborative Stages presents
THE HOUSE OF YES
Written by Wendy McLeod

(New York, NY) Collaborative Stages is proud to commence its inaugural season with Wendy MacLeods The House of Yes. Directed by Brian Letchworth, this cult classic runs September 23-27, 2009 at the 78th Street Theatre Lab.

The Pascals, for whom the clock stopped with the Kennedy assassination, are shut in as a Thanksgiving hurricane swirls outside. Arriving ahead of the storm's eye are Jackie-O's twin brother, Marty and his fianc?e Lesly. The obsessive Jackie is keen to renew her long-running incestuous affair with Marty, which is fine by the mother, who's still lamenting her husband's desertion, and by puppyish younger brother Anthony who immediately desires Lesly. The resulting battle over Marty becomes something of a class struggle between the Pascals' poetic insanity and Lesly's plebian pragmatism. The House of Yes premiered at The Magic Theatre in San Francisco in 1990. The San Francisco Chronicle called it, "wickedly funny, disturbing and vividly written."

"Despite its twisted veneer, this is a family tragedy," says director Brian Letchworth. "All notions of absurdity and camp are overshadowed by these complex people with their devastating struggles. The play presents a great challenge to the actors and the seemingly sparse text is a delicious blueprint of a deep and mysterious family history. The play is edgy and provocative and certainly worthy of its cult following."

The House of Yes features an impressive cast of Off-Off Broadway and regional actors: Jill Butterfield as Jackie-O, Christopher Yeatts as Marty, Kyle Warren as Anthony, Liz Forst as Ms. Pascal and Kaitlin Dale as Lesly.

The House of Yes is directed by Brian Letchworth and produced by Sarah Jane Arnegger for Collaborative Stages. The Production staff includes assistant direction/dramaturg: Griffin Parker; scenic designer: Peter Martino; costume designer: Mark Richard Caswell; lighting designer: Michael Megliola; property master: Nicole Gaignat. The production stage manager is Tom Bonner.

The House of Yes opens Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009 at 8pm and runs Thursday, Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2pm and 8pm and Sunday at 3pm thru September 27th, 2009 at the 78th Street Theatre Lab.

************************************************************************
Founded by Sarah Jane Arnegger (Executive Director) and Brian Letchworth (Artistic Director), Collaborative Stages is dedicated to providing a creative home for performing artists of all disciplines, mediums, and genres. Producing revivals and original works, Collaborative Stages challenges artistic boundaries, while fostering and promoting innovative theatre. Our company is committed to the work of the Ensemble and the advancement of the collaborative arts. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of small, fledgling theatre companies with a wide variety of goals and missions. We could spend hours and days, weeks and months pondering over how to be unique, how to stand out, but rather we've chosen to go with our gut instincts and let this organization develop into something on its own. There are far too many limitations in this world - why should we begin with an agenda that's too rigid and defined?

The essence of Collaborative Stages is that we are seeking new and innovative ways to encourage and promote collaboration. Theatre is a team sport. It is collaboration. We strive to create an organization that ultimately highlights, encourages and fosters that sort of work and that seeks new and pioneering ways to create compelling, interesting, dynamic theatre. Our emphasis in on the theatre itself: The people involved and the work they do - they are our focus.
