This may have already been a post (i looked and couldn't find and old one, if it was) but i'd love to know peoples ideas for the cast of the last 5 years, all uh.... 2 people. But i'd love to see Raul Esparza, in like a random production it'd be SO different. Julia Murney and Idina Menzel as Kathy, it'd be CRAZY different, and fabulous... i think....

Let me think about movie actors for a second...Doesn't Ben Stiller sing? (I remember he sang some Tick, Tick..Boom song at a benefti) If so, I think he'd make a good Jamie. I'd pay just to hear him sing, "Shiksa Goddess" :) Also, Adrien Brody, because he's dorky and lovable and might be able to pull it off.

So would Sebastian Arcelus.

Kerry Butler might be cute as Cathy...she can be whiny and needy. Updated On: 1/6/04 at 02:42 PM

The show is so perfect, and the cast was so perfect... it scares me to think of anyone else in the roles. I am going to see it at the Rep in St. Louis in May, and I am more nervous then excited.

I just ordered the CD, so excited to listen to it instead of consistently voting for random songs on Broadwayworld.com.

Idina and Julia Murney are too independent in their acting/singing. I don't think Cathy would be a wise choice for them. What about Donna Murphy/Gregg Edelman?

Bill Finn rocks. Woot.

Are you sure Idina doesn't have a Sheri voice?? I have never seen/heard this show. Recommend me buying it?

I really actually like Jason Robert Brown himself singing it!

Donna Murphy and Gregg Edelmann are WAY too old for the roles. They're not playing middle aged people- they're young loves, aren't they? Young lovers that had problems over a few years and got divorced. I don't think the characters themselves could be any older than 30, no?

I'm sure everyone is tired of hearing this name....but what about Sutton Foster for Cathy? I think she would be amazing!

Who could ever be tired of hearing Sutton's name? :)

BillyLawlor, I think the characters are 28 ("Isn't he wonderful, just twenty-eiiiiiiiiiiiight, the Savior of writing...", by the end of the show. Or the beginning, in this case:))

Ben Stiller, god that is inspired casting. And the woman who was in 'Meet the Parents', they were such a good couple and would go perfectly as Cathy and Jamie. If they can sing.

Is it time for another New York showing of The Last Five Years? I'm sure it would make sense to do it now when the cast recording seems to be such a cult. I think I would actually fly from the UK to see the original cast if it ever happened.

I guess Donna and Gregg are too old for the roles. How about Alice Ripley as Cathy? or Marin Mazzie?

No insult to Marin Mazzie, as she is an incredible performer, but she could never pull off (convicingly, at least) a 23 year old. As a younger woman, she could have been amazing- but definitely not now.
I'd like to see Alice Ripley take a stab at it.

Do you think Harry Connick Jr could sing Jaime? He certainly looks the part.

Harry Connick, Jr. can do anything.

No, seriously, I have been in love with him since I was 11-years-old and it breaks my heart that he hasn't been in a Broadway musical yet.

His voice is so different from Norbert's and I've listened to Norbert sing those songs 9,000 times, but I'm sure I could get used to it.
