Interesting to see Rod Hull and Emu listed amongst the casts of these pantos.
That act started out as part of a 1960's Sydney (Australia) based childrens show called The Super Flying Fun Show where Rod Hull & Emu were sort of sidekicks to the hostess for a couple of years. After a few years the show went off the air and Rod Hull disappeared completely, then a some years later he started appearing on British TV (with a different emu). Is he still around?

He worked right up until his death in 1999.
He was at home watching sport with his family, the TV reception went funny and he went to the roof to move the aerial and fell to his death.

His son revived the act recently and now tours theatres and I think he is on kids TV.

Derek Nimmo in BABES IN THE WOOD (1972). This would have been his first stage appearance after CHARLIE GIRL which wound up it's Australian/NZ tour in Wellington late August of that year. And Anna Neagle was still at it in 1985 ! She would have been either 81 or 85 depending on what book you consult.

No way! This weekend, my grandad got a load of photos out and he has a hand written duplicate ticket for Aladdin with Cilla Black at the Palladium! He kept it aside to show me because I work in theatre, bless him. It's the only thing he's ever seen in London.

I bloody love my Grandad. He's great.

I must correct these comments as a friend of Annie's She was not his sister but his close friend and confidante, La rue didnt have a 'massive' stroke he was still very functional and indeed worked on several 'small scale' shows after the slight stroke. Barbara windsor is a smug two faced c***! she only came on the scene to see Dan in his last days and couldnt even be bothered to attend a 'Tribute show' which i was involved with at the London Palladium for danny two years ago.

I couldn't agree more.
Sadly, in his last days Danny, who I worked with in the 80s, was surrounded by a bunch of magpies all after something.
As for 'best mate' Ms Windsor, I think the word you meant was CUNT!
RIP Dan, you still entertain me and there will never ever be another you.

Very well put!!!!!!! LOL However lets not turn dear Dan into a Saint here, he could be an awkward cuss and upset an awful lot of people over the years, i can think of several 'impressarios' who refused to give him work and had no time for him or his financial problems in the latter years sadly. However he was a good entertainer and loved the 'business'. may he rest in peace and rise in glory!! x

I've only ever been able to see clips of Danny on T.V and Internet but its everything I love. I loved reading the article on his costumes auction- so many stories behind each outfit. Wished I'd been an industry professional and could have afforded one. I also love Barbara Windsor but its always interesting to hear the insider stories!!

re: The Legendary Danny La Rue Takes last Bow.

dear MamasDoinFine, sorry to semi hijack the thread, only have ever seen bits of Danny on telly. But I do have to tell you I love your avatars, this current one is my fave -i adore Julie Andrews and STAR!, and your pics that you post are just wonderful. A question for you, Have you got any of the marquee of the Dominion when STAR! was playing there.? I have only been able to get a half shot of the theatre and marquee on what is supposed to be the July 1968 premiere. Sorry for the bother and thank you.
