I usually don't go online and write on message boards but i have to write about this play, "The Little flower of East Orange". I went last night with a friend who had tickets, to the Public theatre and the show was sold out. I have to mention Ellen Burstyn first because she truly is a dynamic force even when she's subtle and nuanced. Her presence just ignites the words and the story into action, it's great seeing her at this point in her career when she truly has become a virtuoso of her instrument. I remember seeing, "The Last days of Judas Iscariot" and recognizing that Stephen Adly Guirgis is one of our most important playwrights living today and i stand by that with this show. His work continues to leave a trace and embodies a new atmosphere in contemporary theatre today. Michael Shannon deserves a notable mention for really carrying the show and i must say this show is well deserving of the standing ovation it got last night, not once but twice.
