In response to a negative and painful-to-read thread re: how the off-Broadway musical THE MAGDALENE is anti-Christian, I thought I would start a positive thread re: how THE MAGDALENE is more Christian than most Christians!
Yes, Jesus is shown in a sexual relationship with Mary Magdalene (they have a daughter), but when Jesus says; If God is Love, then Love is God... I realized I was going to take my mother to this so she can hear why gay marriage MUST be legalized by CHRISTIAN standards!
I thought that the show could push the envelope further until I realized, this is a show to make people think differently about Jesus' message and you have to be careful how you bring traditional Christians into the fold. It effortlessly changes your mind because the core message is one that NO CHRISTIAN (in their right mind) could disagree with!
That said- the musical itself looks very low budget but the strong performances more than make up for that! The actress who plays Mary gives one of the most impassioned performances I've seen in a new musical in a loooong time! Nice to see something dramatic that isn't a revival!
