Unable to make the hard (& necessary decisions) re closing this years budget gap (next years is gargantuan) one idea being floated by the mental midgets & wimps in Albany is a 4 % tax on amusement tickets (Broadway,Sports & Entertainatent). At the same time the city sales tax & MTA tax kicks in & you are looking at about a 10 % increase. Therefore a $ 100 ticket will cost $ 10 more.
This will do wonders for an ailing Broadway & will force some shows to close & some not to open at all. If this is enacted, we will stop going. Whenever they need more money, they will up it in the future
Way to go guys . The municipal & state unions bought you a long time ago & now you are content to devastate the state & city economies rather than ask them to sacrifice.

I'm sure that tax is aimed at tourists who make up most the "Ticket" buying public.
What I want to see is that money is going back directly to the Arts foundations and Theatre's that are also suffering.
I can dream can't I?

It is going into the city treasury & is already spoken for.
No matter who pays it, it will stop some people from going. When tourists get wind of this & other great ideas like banning carriage rides etc, the city will be the ultimate loser.
Little by little, the city is losing its luster & is being irrevocably ruined.

Haha!
Yeah, I have to say... it's $10. It's not the end of the world.
I'm not saying that cause I have the money. I really don't.
BUT IT COULD ALWAYS BE WORSE.
This sounds more like a baby needing his bottle then a legit complaint. You remind me of the teacher from Charlie Brown (Wahh Wa WAH WAH Waaahhh)

Posted: 2/4/09 at 7:59pmI guess the broadway producers petioning Patterson not to enact this tax are babies in need of their bottles also.I am glad it does not phase you that much. What will it take for you to be concerned?

I thought this was gonna be about $700 tickets to see YF put on by Mel Brooks playing every role VIA halogram (sp?).
DAMN, now I'm gonna have to go spend $700 on shows WORTH SEEING.

Yes, while there may be posters on here who think that we can't survive without theatre the truth is we can't. It makes sense not to tax things that we MUST have in order to live food etc. But, we can live without theatre. Grow up and get over it. Hell, if a college student who isn't making an income isn't bothered by such a thing, then I would hope that a grown man who is making a living can feel the same way as well.
