Nice review by Stephen Holden in today's Times of Steve's solo Duplex concert:
"With his bright, clear voice and a piano style that flows seamlessly from the pumping edge of rock into a semiclassical lyricism, Mr. Lutvak has a musical command comparable to that of fellow underappreciated masters of the serious popular song like Jason Robert Brown, John Bucchino and Craig Carnelia. Mr. Lutvak composed the title song for the documentary 'Mad Hot Ballroom', and he has various musicals, including an adaptation of the Alec Guinness film 'Kind Hearts and Coronets' floating around in various stages of development. But he is still awaiting his well-deserved big moment...."
Holden neglected to mention that Steve has written the theme song from this years Gay Games in Chicago (If you liked 'Mad Hot Ballroom', you'll LOVE this one). Wish I could be at his KIND HEARTS reading in Boston tomorrow. I've heard several songs from it at his earlier Duplex shows and they are both lyrically sharp and musically soaring. Would love to hear some reports from the Huntington!
