I must say that I am very excited that the new revival of Sweet Charity is FINALLY getting underway. And I am even more happy that it will be trying out in my area! By the way, I remember that it was supposed to tryout at the Curran Theatre in San Fransisco, Canon Theatre in Toronto, and Shubert Theatre in Chicago. Is this correct?
I am very excited and intrigued to see Christina Applegate land the role, but I'm also intrigued about who her understudy will be. It seems a sort of tradition that the girl playing Nickie by the Charity u/s (Helen Gallagher in the original, Bebe Neuwirth in the 1986 revival). I do wonder if this will continue, because Natascia Diaz, who played Nickie in the workshop, would make a good Charity as well, assuming she will be considered for the revival. Denis O'Hare, another member of the workshop cast, would be a wonderful Oscar and I hope he gets to do it, although he may be too busy with Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, which will be debuting in the fall and he has beenpart of workshops for that show since its early conception.
Did anyone see the workshop? What did they think? What are some of the book changes that Neil Simon has made? I heard somewhere that the new opening number will be Big Spender and that Charity will be given a real star entrance.
Here's to "Hope" for this new "Valentine" to "Charity" (I know that that was awful).

I'm excited, too! I'll probably get tickets for this if and when it comes to Broadway, especially to see Christina Applegate. I just love the show and I think I would really enjoy Christina as Charity.
Plus, it's time for a big Broadway revived edition of "Big Spender"!
