Instead of the million and one threads that pop up on "Dreamgirls," I thought it would be interesting if we could keep all discussion on it in this one topic.

After 20 years in the making, filming officially begins on Monday January 9th!!!!

The cast album has been in heavy rotation in my CD player.

Anyone excited?

When I saw the Producers they had a "trailer" for this already. Obviously no clips, but they are pushing the film already. And of course making sure everyone knows Beyonce and Jamie Foxx are in it.

On a side note, I am going to see the Dreamgirls in Philadelphia this weekend. Can't wait!

I am glad that this movie is getting good marketing, a great creative team, and star power, it has a good chance to be a successful movie.
I hope Jennifer Hudson acts the role of Effie instead of trying to impress people with her singing.

I'm excited for this too.

But, I can tell you right now...this will not be the only thread on it.

Shooting begins on Monday? Very exciting.

I guess this means the "vocal tracks" have already been recorded? I'm assuming like any movie musical they will be lip-synching to pre-recorded tracks.

Has anybody heard "inside buzz" on the soundtrack recording? I can imagine they will do everything in their power to keep Jennifer's version of "I'm Telling You..." under lock and key so it won't be leaked before the film or soundtrack is released.

Oh no - it's the most famous song. It'll be all over the place. But not the entire thing, I wouldn't think. Probably a certain splice of it to be used for EVERYTHING.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I hate this show. It's going to make a sh*tty movie. Why are they even bothering with this garbage? And Beyoncé? Jennifer Hudson? Eddie Murphy? Talk about scraping the bottom of the proverbial barrell. It reeks worse than a toilet bowl that hasn't been flushed for 30 days.

I'm so excited for this film! I have a little bit of apprehension about Beyonce but I feel in the end she'll do it justice. Jennifer is who I'm excited about; ever since American Idol I've been a huge fan of her's and after the first time I heard the Dreamgirls cast recording I thought she'd make a wonderful Effie. Can't wait for December of this year!

Cheers,

C.

Dreamgirls’ In Motion

Production on the long-awaited movie adaptation of ‘Dreamgirls’ starts on Jan. 9 in Los Angeles, and news of additional cast members is surfacing. ‘Boston Public’ actress Sharon Leal, and theater veteran Hinton Battle joins Beyonce Knowles, Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx, Keith Robinson, Anika Noni Rose and Jennifer Hudson in the Bill Condon-directed project. Unofficial reports have surfaced that rappers Mos Def, Heavy D, singers Keith Sweat and Ralph Tresvant and actor Anthony Mackie have been cast, but a Dreamworks Pictures publicist could not confirm those additions at press time. However, Chuck Richardson, who reps Tresvant did reveal to Black Voices that there is an offer on the table for the New Edition lead singer to join the cast, that has yet to be solidified. Reps for Def and Heavy D also denied reports. ‘Dreamgirls’ is loosely based on the rise of Motown super-group The Supremes. The original Tony Award winning Broadway musical launched the careers of Sheryl Lee Ralph, Jennifer Holliday, Loretta Devine, Obba Babatunde, Phylicia Rashad and Vondie Curtis Hall.
