The Pillowman - a quick review

Saw this on Saturday night. Had front row seats, which were fine for this one, since stage is nice and low. Lots of spitting to be seen.
Very powerful performances, NOT boring at all. Scary for young children, don't bring them ( a LOT more intense than "Shockheaded Peter"). Billy Crudop (sp?) was excellent, and the rest of the cast wsa also quite good (bought tickets initially due to Jeff Goldblum, but entire cast was well worth the discount price tickets I obtained - it's worth full price!). Funny at times, but mostly not. I'm going back again to bring my daughter, who is a psych major - I'm sure she'll enjoy this one.

Please don't mention Shockheaded Peter and The Pillowman in one sentence. It hurts me so.

Posted: 4/19/05 at 8:40amThey were QUITE different! Pillowman was FAR above the other, but both did involve having bad things happen to children.

I didn't think Shockheaded Peter was SO bad. I think it would have come off much better if it was 10-15 minutes shorter. I was definitely checking my watch the last couple of songs.
But, with that being said, I really can't wait to see The Pillowman! Having heard such great things about it, it is right at the top of my to see list!

Mabel, I thought Shockheaded Peter was SO bad.
I'm curious to hear your opinion on The Pillowman. I loved it so much, I'm seeing again tonight.

Well, to be fair, I got a free ticket. Whenever the show's on the house, I'm definitely much easier to please!

Yes, and it's always easier to be very bitter when you actually paid to see such crap.

I hope they won't cut your thumps off for being so naughty to them, Matt.
You see, now that I saw this terrible disaster, this threat is not so bad anymore!!!

I was hoping 'the singer' would fall over it and break his neck. But no such luck.

Posted: 4/19/05 at 10:19amSinger? I didn't know that anyone sang. Just a series of high pitched Espinosaesque squeals.

Exactly how intense and violent/gory is it? I have a semi-low threshold on anything too intense and graphic. It just KILLS ME to think I might have to forgo seeing a show that seems to have been really well written and produced.
Any help???

It wasn't violent or gory, it was just very GOOD. I was almost afraid to see it based on what I had heard, but it is well worth seeing - don't miss it!
I'm going to bring my daughter to see it (the psych major in college)....
