https://www.broadwayworld.com/l.cfm?id=65712 We saw the Pillowman last night. It is by far the worst play I've ever seen. My friend and I (both writers) wanted to leave halfway through the very long first act but we were stuck in the middle of the row. The subject matter is gruesome, and is repeated ad nauseum, throughout the first act. We didn't stay for the second. Audience members, clearly fans of television sitcoms and teen movies laughed uproariously at such lines as "I have an itchy ass." Spend your money if you want to, theatregoers, but this one, in my opinion shouldn't even open on Broadway.

It's an interesting, startling play, but it's not going to be for every taste, I'd imagine.

I agree. McDonagh's work is usually a love him or hate him playwright.
