The Price is Right's Announcer Rod Roddy Dies

Alas he has gone to that big showcase in the sky. He will no longer be telling us to "come on down" and he is sadly off the list of possible replacements for the part of Edna in Hairspray.

Did you know he was the announcer of the TV series Soap in the late 1970s?

Growing up I always thought The Price is Right (if I remember correctly, when this version was on for its first couple of years, they titled in The New Price is Right--the original Price is Right was hosted by Bill Cullen) was kind of lame, silly and embarassing.

However, the last couple of years I find I enjoy the show enormously. It is always delightful and warm and welcoming and Bob Barker is simply remarkable.

Mr. Roddy certainly made a flashy and sequiny mark in the entertainment world. It is indeed sad he died so young. He will be fondly remembered.

Sueleen, as rlbgbc points out, hopefully Mr. Roddy went on down many times in his life:)

You might say his big wheel is no longer turning and he cashed in his Plinko chips.
