And some people spend a lot of money to go to the theatre and don’t want that experience ruined by an overzealous fan screaming through the whole thing.
I think “Don’t be an ***hole” is a great way to generally approach life; and some people need the reminder.

I mentioned in another thread, a major regional Rocky brought me in as a "guest heckler" to do callbacks through the first week of previews/opening for their show last year. In the course of three successive nights at the theatre, I had three VERY different experiences: the first night, I was the ONLY person interacting. The second night was "Rocky Horror Fan Night," and five local stage or shadowcast productions were invited to the show, leading to a loud, chaotic, rock concert like experience that was absolutely electric. The third night, the two understudy/swings who weren't on joined me in the house and did callbacks, as did a very small handful of audience members (maybe five or six total).
But the audience in general? Square. Not just not participating square, but very white, middle aged or older, relatively stodgy, not raucous or really digging into the spirit of playful hedonism or punk attitude. It was the exact same audience demographic they would have had if they were producing Clue or Forever Plaid or any other standard cabaret/dinner theatre show.
