The Rolling Stone (Mitzi Newhouse)

I saw this in previews last week and I thought it was phenomenal. The actors commanded every moment and the direction was top notch. It was one of the best uses of the Newhouse stage that I have ever witnessed. The director has a bright future. If the script had another layer it could easily go to Broadway for a limited run.

I think the reason nothing came up is because the other thread is named Rolling Stone rather than The Rolling Stone...

I only knew about it because I had been following it. I’m actually seeing the show tonight and I’m looking forward to it!

I have mixed feelings about it, while I don’t agree with any of the comments on the other thread, I didn’t really love it either...

I’m baffled that someone would criticize the acting in it and say that there isn’t anything remotely honest in it though... for me the acting was top notch, all the actors were fantastic and were able to elevate the material. The writing was a bit inconsistent, at times brilliant, at times a bit cliched. The story was frightening, and when you consider that the main driving event in the play actually happened, it just makes it plain scary.

My main problem was the end, it just felt unresolved. And I kinda wished that more parallels were drawn to the situation in America now. So I will agree that I wish there was another layer in the script.

The set design, while impressive, it’s only effective if you are sitting in the center seats. I was more to the side and therefore couldn’t really appreciate it... at intermission I strolled to the center to have a look and it really makes a big difference.
