Has anyone seen this show? I bought the CD and I actually like the music.
Haven't seen it, but Hal Linden and the boys did "Sons" on the "Ed Sullivan Show" back in 1970. It's a great clip (did you notice one of the kids is Robbie Benson, who had a big film career and replaced Rex Smith in "Pirates of Penzance" on Broadway?) My favourite songs are "In My Own Lifetime", "Everything", "Rothschild and Sons" and that sensational overture which I think is one of the best ever!

A wonderful, underrated score, among the best of its time, and the last Broadway show they wrote together. (They did write a new, if superfluous, song for the current revival of FIDDLER).
Not to mention the fabulous late-career high orchestrations by Don Walker.
This score is wonderful...

And don't forget, Robbie Benson was the voice of The Beast in Disney's BATB.
Of course! With that hugely deep voice! And in "Sons" on the ROTHSCHILDS album, he plays the kid whose voice is breaking!

And I find the ironic "Jew, do your duty" ending of Act One one of the most thrilling curtains in all of musical theater.
Speaking of that line, I wonder if the recording would have been better served if they had included the segment early in the show where the children on the street taunt Meyer Rothschild, "Jew, do your duty," so that the Act One closing line would have more dramatic heft. You wouldn't hear Meyer bowing to the children, but still...
