I saw the Starry Messenger starring Matthew Broderick this past Wednesday thanks to TDF. I have to say it was pretty boring and uneventful. There was just SO much meat to chew in this piece. So many characters and themes. The stage was quite large for an Off-Broadway show, and I thought the play had some hope, but the performances were just kind of boring. Broderick played his stock character, and the lady playing his love interest is AWFUL. Her acting was dreadful which is a combination of bad writing, and lack of having a character. Did anyone else see it? I just don't know what to make of it.

I saw it and feel that it's just way too long and the themes of the play just don't tie together. There was great potential in this play if the writer could just trim it and make it flow. IMO, the performances are what made the play somewhat interesting. I totally disagree with you about Catalina Moreno. She is a wonderful actress. I also disagree with you about Matthew Broderick playing the same character. He had two terrific scenes where he breaks down and cries and gets very angry. You don't see him get those opportunities to show emotion in the roles that he usually plays. The long drawn out somewhat boring dialogue is not the fault of the actors.

I thought it was a complete mess. Staggeringly boring. I've kind of given up on Matthew Broderick. It's true his vehicle did him no favors; but neither did he do any for this woebegone vehicle.
