Sigh to all the tall girls out there trying to make it in musical theater. In terms of youth productions...

Is it good or bad that we always get put into adult roles?
(Combination of being an alto help or hurt?)

Never a chance to be Sandy in Grease or Audrey in Little Shop
(Help me out here with adult great roles....Company that I just did worked well, I made a joke about this in my bio)

P.S. I'm six feet. I do notice nowadays that the chorus girls are all getting taller. The combo of nice bod works well too (not here) I was sitting in Producers and was like "DArN man! All the chorus girls are taller than the Lane or Broderick!" Not MUCH of a feat but still one none-the-less

Ok.....so how about I try opening this up to some more people...

How about anybody who has ever been worried that their co-star is shorter than them?! It's a culture standard that men should be taller than women. Women speak up!

I got lucky my senior year of high school that Higgins was a talented giant.

Well, I am curently playing Perchik and my Hodel is quite a bit shorter than I am.

*Quite* a bit...

Well that's the trap my dearie! It's completely fine for the girl to be millions of times shorter than the male! But even equal height....WOAH weird!

If it makes you feel better, Tzeitel is the same height as Motel. Maybe even a fraction of an inch taller.

Hey Priest! I'm playing Hodel right now and I'm 5'0". My Perchik is not tall though. How tall are you?

I too am 6'0" and have been since I was about 14. How old are you?? Because there are TONS of great adult roles that were available in my younger teen years (I'm almost 20 now) when casts we all my age. Mrs. Harcourt in Anything Goes is lots of fun, Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street, Jacquie in Me and My Girl, Dolly in Hello Dolly! Sometimes it matters and sometimes it doesn't. It depends on the director a lot I think.
I've definitely not been cast because of the height difference. I did Bye Bye Birdie and got cast as Mae, even though I read for Rose. The director told me later I would've had it except the kid playing Albert was only 5'6" and it would've looked weird and that it was a ebtter visual if I was the mother.
So, yes, it sucks. But own it and you'll rule the stage!

Talented actors will get hired. Period.

A good friend is an Equity actor, and was in a regional production of Cabaret. They cast a 6'1" Sally Bowles (who was very, very good). She towered over the other women in the production. My friend (who is 6'4) was delighted to be cast afterwards as Cliff --- they decided on a great Sally first, and then looked for tall Cliffs.

Embrace your Tallness! Aim for the fun character roles. Ingenues are pretty dull anyways.
