Not sure how many of you are in love with the Adam Sandler flick "The Wedding Singer" (co-starring Drew Barrymore), but for those of you who do, you may be interested to know this:

Summary for those who don't want to read too much:
Margo Lion and New Line Cinema are in the process of putting together a musical based on the 1998 movie "The Wedding Singer". Previews are going to be in Seattle (at Fifth Avenue Theatre). Prospective theatres for when the show hits Broadway are The Virgina and The Al Hirschfeld.
The creative team working on the project right now include: Matthew Sklar (composer), Chad Beguelin (lyricist-book writer), and Tim Herlihy (book-writer). Sklar and Beguelin are both currently working on the musical version of "Get Shorty".
There won't be any worshops prior to the previews in Seattle. In the readings, the part of Robbie Hart (Adam Sandler's role in the movie) was read by stand-up comic/songwriter Stephen Lynch. There have been no contracts signed for the final cast, but if Lynch is signed, he'll make his Broadway debut in "The Wedding Singer".
So, there you go. And if you all haven't heard Stephen Lynch's album "Superhero" - I highly recommend it (if you're not easily offended).

Posted: 7/4/05 at 5:40pmI think it's interesting seeing as I found this on Stephen Lynch's website, but I only looked it up because we JUST got the news on the radio yesterday night. Mind you, I live 2 & 1/2 hours from Seattle. So it's interesting how they just now tell us, as opposed to tell us when the news actually breaks. Anyway, figured I'd put it up so I can add up when I find out they're selling tickets and who gets casted.

Just because the out-of-town tryout is in Seattle doesn't mean casting will first be announced there. It is most likely the metropolitan area will be the first to know.
