The other Wedding Singer thread was specific to one performance, so I figured I'd start a general thread.
Just saw the show last night (Tuesday 2/7.) Now, I am not one to write one of those long, person by person, scene by scene reviews. These are just my personal thoughts on the show.
I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a train wreck, and it really isn't. For the most part I was entertained. The music is somewhat catchy, though by the end of the show not one song stuck in my head. The cast is great... I did find a lack of chemistry between Robbie and Julia, but that's not to say they weren't good.
The dialogue was trite at times... too many 'funny' 'wink wink' quotes to songs of the 80's. It was funny the first time, you giggle the second, and by the nth time it's just plainly annoying. There are a couple of other 'devices' that were used too much. (trying not to give away too much here)
Overall I found it enjoyable, though not sure how it will hold up on B'way. I wasn't blown away by it, but I was also not hating every minute of it.
DayDreamer, so glad to see you here on the other side!! Thanks for your review.
Thanks for the mini-review DD!
And wow, you saw a show before me!
I still say there was no burning desire (for me at least), to have a musical adaptation of this film.

I too saw The Wedding Singer Tuesday night. The guy behind me said, "That was the longest 3-hours of my life" and he said that at intermission. I think it's time to get out the scissors especially if they want to play Vegas someday with its 90-minute time limit. I'll have more of my thoughts on the show later.
It's just over 2 1/2 hours long.
