From Broadway.com:
" Broadway.com has learned that Margo Lion and New Line Cinema, who previously collaborated on Hairspray, are returning to The 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle with their next project, the stage version of The Wedding Singer. The musical, directed by John Rando, will start out of town on January 31 in preparation for an April 2006 Broadway bow.
The Wedding Singer has had three readings in the last couple of years, and Steven Lynch played the title role in all of them. A March reading also featured Alli Mauzey as the female lead Julia, Amy Spanger as her best friend Holly, Felicia Finley as Linda, Matt Saldivar as Sammy, Daniel Reichard as George, Jason Antoon as Jimmy, Rita Gardner as Rosie and Richard Blake as Glen."
I really think this is going to be a great show. It has an amazing team behind it and I always thought it would have a great stage adaption. Here's to it's success.

Posted: 4/14/05 at 10:17pmI was wondering that, too. But he spells it StePHen...and the article says it's SteVen. And there is no Steven Lynch on ibdb.com so I guess he's a Broadway newcomer. Actually the whole cast is full of not so huge names...perhaps it's THAT good that it doesn't need it.

The Playbill.com article says it's slated to open at a Jujamcyn theatre in April of 2006.
The Jujamcyn Broadway houses are:
The Al Hirschfeld Theatre
The Eugene O'Neill Theatre
The St.James Theatre
The Virginia Theatre
The Walter Kerr Theatre
Now, depending on the TONY's, I could give "Doubt" at least a healthy year-long run at the Walter Kerr, so that theatre is out. "The Producers" isn't going anywhere, so the St. James is out. That leaves the Hirschfeld, Virginia, and O'Neill. Now, personally, if "Wonderful Town" could run for a year at the Hirschfeld, I have NO DOUBT that Charity has the same capability, so I'm ruling the Hirschfeld out. Depending on how long Sutton stays with "Little Women" and how long it's appeal lasts, I'd say the chances of the Virginia still being occupied are very good. So, the Virginia is out.
I'm calling it now..."The Wedding Singer" will play the Eugene O'Neill. I mean, come on, do you think "Good Vibrations" will be there by April 2006? I don't.

Stephen Lynch (the real spelling of his name) is a very talented actor. Yes he is that comedian, I am a very big fan and have seen his many times. The comedy career kind of came as a fluke. He is just a funny guy and made up songs in college and such. A friend basically asked him to sing a set of his songs for an open mike night at a comedy club in NYC people enjoyed it he got a following, then opie & anthony got wind of him, then comedy specials.
He actually is an accomplished actor as well. He has done many shows in college and at the Barn Theatre in Michigan. He has a degree in the theatre. That is what he originally set out to do just his comedy career took off. His voice is awesome. I am so happy that he is getting a chance to do this. He is going to be wonderful..I promise you. You can not help but love him and route for him. When he sings at shows he is funny and adorable and has this unbelievable comic ability to pull a lot of things off. I think he will BE Robbie.
