Hey ya'll we're doing The Wild Party (Lippa) at my school this year and I know the music by heart and it's one of my favorite shows, but could someone give me an overview of all the characters, and a synopsis of the story? I really need help! Auditions are coming up soon and I need a synopsis soon...thanks!

How did you get to do the Wild Party? I just got the CD for X-mas and have listened to it so many times already!
Good luck at auditions!
THanks Guys. And yeah, it's pretty amazing that we're doing this show! Also, we're doing Sideshow the next year. Both Amazing Shows...I'm pretty excited!
What school do you go to? I'm assuming you're in college, because those are two VERY ambitious shows to do in high school, not to mention that The Wild Party is a 2 hour long orgy.
Western Michigan University. Everything here has Nudity or sex of some kind...it's kinda funny:)
We did Metamorphoses here too which is pretty new and pretty racy, and there are basically no limits at this school...i love it here.
Wow, that's intense. What city is Western Michigan U in?

I was lucky enough to see the show...AMAZING!! What a loss that it wasn't on Broadway so the non-industry people could see it...
It was supposed to transfer to Broadway (the pictures included in the CD booklet are actually the press photos that were taken in anticipation for the Broadway run), but something happened. I can't remember if anyone actually told me what, though.
It's in Kalamazoo. I love it here. You guys should come see it!

There were two musical versions of the poem out. The one with Eartha Kitt made it to broadway, It sucked. Lippa's didn't...
The Broadway Wild Party (music by Michael John LaChiusa) is not in any way a bad show. It's much more complicated, layered and sophisticated than Lippa's. Thta doesn't necessarilly make it a bad show. It took me a while to catch on to it, but now I really enjoy both. Also, Lippa's was the much more young and sexy one, geared towards the RENT generation. LaChiusa's was definitely not that.
And cathe, I would totally go and see it, but I live in Seattle. Sorry!
If you're at a university, there should be a copy of the poem on which the show is based at the library.
The Wild Party Poem
"The one with Eartha Kitt made it to broadway, It sucked."
No it didn't. It was far more dark and complex than Lippa's. If you want a more standard, generic hummable musical comedy score, then you will like Lippa. If you want a score that is more layered, complex, and more closely stylized to the mood and period, then you will like LaChiusa. They are nothing alike.
There is a production of Andrew Lippa's THE WILD PARTY this weekend through Feb 19th in Beautiful Frederick, Maryland. This is about an hour or so outside of both DC and Balt.
Thanks Guys...I think I'm definately gonna go read the poem. I also need to hear LaChusia's version, i never have. Anyway, it's too bad this one didn't make it to broadway...it's amazing!
