um, digging deeper...........it could represent how all the characters leaned on the witch as a crutch and with her departure it not only marked that they had gone in over their heads but that they had to begin to fend for themselves given the loss of their own personal protectors: Cinderella's family, the Baker's wife, Jack's mother and Red's granny. At the time of loss they all had to work with the people left over to.....survive? Maybe? Its too late in the night for symbolism.
