You have got to be kidding! The Wiz a great Movie? I think not.

A great Broadway Musical yes but a disaster as a move. One of the worst musical to movie transfers out there. Starting with the stupid casting of Miss Ross etc. etc. etc. I only hope the revival of the musical comes soon, and thet it's as good as the original, so that people who have only seen this dreadful movie could understand how good it was on stage.

i have actually seen it on stage and i thought the re-imagining (sp?) was really neat. though they butchered some of the songs, i thought the overall show was really stunning and a really good movie. but each to his own.

I've seen part of it.
Creepy.
Maybe it's because I saw the Michael Jackson/Crow part.

I hate the movie - the only part worth watching is Mabel King, reprising her Broadway role of Evilene, singing "No Bad News". She is hilarious.

Another botched stage to screen transfer . Diana Ross miscast as Dorothy . It was an overblown mess. I saw the original show which was superior in every way

No Bad News is about the time I turned it on last night. I'd been watching WE earlier in the evening and shut the tv off on that channel. When I turned it back on around 1am I found The Wiz lol

Ya know, I have always felt that the movie version of The Wiz has always gotten a bad rap. Sure, Diana Ross is horribly miscast (what with her being in her thirties, trying to play a character in her twenties who is really supposed to be about 15) and I wish that they had cast Sammy Davis Jr as the Wiz (or at least someone who could sing "So You Wanted to Meet the Wizard") but all in all, it's a pretty fun movie. You got Mabel King belting her way through "No Bad News", Michael Jackson tearing it up in "You Can't Win" (which I happen to like more than "I Was Born on the Day Before Yesterday"), and that fabulous Emerald City sequence ("you've got to be seen green..." love it!!). If I could go back in time, I would somehow convince La Ross to not do this movie... or maybe convince her to play Glinda the Good... and get Stephanie Mills to reprise her Dorothy.

there's only two reasons I would watch this movie again: Mabel King and Lena Horne.

It's one of those movies of the 70s and 80s like TOMMY, XANADU, PINK FLOYD: THE WALL that are just suppossed to be weird for the sake of being weird. It's just that time period and the movies do not suck. They are very stylized and it's more baout images and cheesy special effects and songs than something normal.

What I want to know is when will there be a ME Channel. Men's Entertainment. "Television for Men"

That seems to be an excuse for bad movies. IMHO the movies of "Tommy", "Xanadu" and "The Wiz" sucked! There were good movies in the 70s and 80s and some of them were also about images and cheesy special effects but at least one could watch them.

OK, first Diana Ross being dorothy? what the hell were they thinking? Changing the whole story around, just so that she can be in it. That is wrong! Micheal Jackson I think did a pretty good job as the scarecrow, but i guess the song "I was born the day before yesturday" was not hight enough for him that they made a totally different song! I did not like at all that they changed the whole script around. Dorothy is a farm girl, and Ms. Diana Ross was a grade school teacher in Harlem.
One thing I did like was the scene with Addapearl "Miss. One in movie version" and the munchkin was great! Also the Emerald City Sequence was also good.
What was up with Richard Pryor as The Wiz. he was suppose to sing two songs : "So you wanted to meet the wizard" and "Ya'll got it" The best part of the whole musical* (* My opinion)
was The Tornado from the Original Broadway production.
The whole movie was a cheap shot attempt.
Diana Ross miraculously floated to Oz by thin air.
That was stupid.
The only reason I own "The Wiz" is because I was in a production of The Wiz (02/2004) I was The Wiz.

I guess most of the music of the original Broadway production
was taken away so that Diana Ross would sing more songs.

Question:
Was the man in the subway in the movie with the puppets
were suppose to be Kalidahs?

Although the movie was ok (used loosely) I am glad to hear
that The Wiz is coming back to Broadway soon.
I did not see the original because i wasn't born. LOL

I think someone should attempt to recreate another movie
"The Wiz" and this time, do it right! Updated On: 10/17/04 at 10:08 PM

I know how it is, especially being in a production of The Wiz. Wiz music has been stuck in my head for a while.
Once you see a production of The Wiz live,
you'll like it more than the movie.
I think the movie is crying for a rivival.
who could be the new Dorothy?
