I have a question.....I want peoples ideas on putting the Wizard of Oz on Broadway in about 5 years or so. The show would be the RSC verson similar to the movie. I want to know your idea on it and some possible theaters it could play at. It requires a large theater like the Palace or Gershwin. Also if it was to go on Broadway in a few years would you go see it? I want to know all of your ideas on the topic, please and thank you!
P.S. if you could cast broadway stars in the show who would you cast for Dorothy, Wicked Witch, Glinda, Scarecrow, Tinman and the Lion? Please Post Any Thing You Can Say to the Topic.

*The Madison Square Gardens production is not a Broadway remdition of it and it only played for a very short time.

Why would it automatically require a large theatre? I mean, The Palace is ok, but The Gershwin is a dreadful boring cavern.
I'm not sure that a Wicked-saturated theatre community needs a Broadway production of The Wizard of Oz though, honestly. It tends to do well enough in regional theatre.

I think a full-scale production of the MGM Wizard of Oz on Broadway would be a big hit, especially with the right stars (provided they include the Jitterbug). I actually just recently thought about this, and I know this sounds cliche but I think Nathan Lane as the Lion and Matthew Brodrick as the Tinman would be cool.
Dorothy: depends on if you want to go for a young girl like it's supposed to be, or someone who looks a little older...in the second case, I think it would be a cool Bway debut for Catherine McPhee.
Scarecrow: Christian Bale
Lion: Nathan Lane
Tinman: Matthew Brodrick
Wicked Witch: I don't know, maybe Patti Lupone?
Glinda: VIctoria Clarke?
Wizard: Timothy Jerome
I'm not very good at this...

I don't think it would work for at least another 10 years! We need to get over Wicked and The Wiz first! I HATE The Wiz but I like the idea of Wayne Brady as the Scarecrow!!!!!
If Wizard of Oz were to come back here's who I'd cast:
Dorothy: ???
Scarecrow: Jonathan Rayson
Tin Man: Denis O'Hare
Lion: Nathan was soooo great in the role but like someone has said, I doubt he'd go back to do it. So....Lewis J. Stadlen?
The Wizard: Mark Linn-Baker
Wicked Witch: Ana Gasteyer
Glinda: Johanna Gleason

Posted: 7/28/06 at 5:52pmI believe some people are confused -- the Wizard of Oz is already a full-scale production show. Many people think that THE WIZ and WICKED are the only shows in Oz, but there's actually a version of the Wizard onstage already. It's not a new thing. Blah.
