So, apparently the Networks-originated tour of The Wizard of Oz is going back out on the road.. again.. for another year, and without Networks attached.
The website states "this site contains information from the 2010-2011 tour. Check back soon for future tour updates."

Has anyone heard a THING?? It's obviously out non-Equity and is being produced on it's own (Wizard of Oz Company, LLC), but i don't recall reading a casting notice, seeing buzz from anyone on Facebook about anyone hitting the road... nothing...

Posted: 9/26/11 at 3:12amIF Webber's Oz makes it to Broadway it will tank before it ever goes on tour. Americans seem to hold The Wizard of Oz very close to their hearts. They expect it to be the MGM film on stage when they see it, with little to no change. Somehow the MUNY production has become the exception to that rule. Webber has tinkered with it enough that it may be off putting to most people on this side of the pond. Also don't forget, Broadway seems to hate Webber these days anyway.

I think you're generalizing about Americans. I'm American and I enjoyed ALW's Oz in London. One of the major reasons I liked it was because it was not the film on stage. I'm not interested in "film on stage" productions of Oz, or anything else, really. If I want the movie, I'll see the movie.

I'm an American, saw it, and it was not at all off-putting for me---but although I've read the books and, of course, seen the movie, I wouldn't say The Wizard of Oz is close to my heart.
Broadway does seem to hate Webber.
OK, which Webber show would stand the better chance of some kind of success on Broadway, Love Never Dies or The Wizard of Oz?

Posted: 9/26/11 at 1:18pmNETworks hasn't been involved in OZ for over a year. Last years tour (it's second year I believe) wasn't produced by NETworks either. They just did the first season.
