We have all these posts about which actor you would like to see naked or who you would like to go to dinner with.
My question is- which actor or actress is the one you dislike the most?

Posted: 5/19/05 at 9:23pmI usually can't stand Nathan Lane. He is incredibly overrated. Jennifer Holliday, too.

Oh my.
Well, I think Nathan Lane has some of the most extraordinary comedic timing and technique of any actor in the business. You may find him annoying or too similar show to show, but few, if any, in this generation are in his class in terms of pulling off that kind of old-school, Zero Mostel larger-than-life performance that so many star vehicles of the past require. Schtick is a nearly lost art and he's one of the very few left who can pull it off with aplomb.
As for Jennifer Holliday, she's perhaps the ONLY performer in my lifetime with the ability to stop a show in its tracks and get a standing ovation every time she opens her mouth. Not since Merman has ANYBODY stopped a show like she stopped "Dreamgirls," where the night I saw it, the standing ovation started halfway through "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" and there was something resembling a riot in the theatre by the time the curtain dropped with people standing ON their seats and dozens of people in the Imperial Theatre rushing the stage to get closer to her. I saw 8 other Effies after that and none of them pulled that off.
I saw her in the pre-Broadway tours of "Sing Mahalia Sing" and Maurice Hines' "Harlem Suite" and the same things happened. Standing ovations before numbers were even close to finished, chanting, shouting, weeping and wailing in the audience -- the woman turns normally sedate audiences of reserved theatregoers into congregates at a revival meeting. NO ONE else I've ever seen can create the sort of electricity she can in a theatre.
Overrated? If anything anything, she's underrated.

Why do you all hate Amy McAlexander? Was it her personality at the stage door or was it her chacrcter in Little Women. To me she was very accomadating and polite at the stage door. And although I didn't like Little Women as a play, I think Amy did a pretty good job.
Just my little input.
Again, to each their own

There's more to life than the stage door, Poo.
Not to say, I don't LOVE meeting stars...just a bad performer is a bad performer...

Posted: 5/20/05 at 1:49amThank you, so much for saying that Margo, because I can't even believe somebody would try and trash Jennifer "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" Holiday. I wish I could have seen her in Dreamgirls.

I'm SURE Ms. McAlexander is a very sweet girl, but her singing, acting and regular speaking voice is enough to make me wanna stab my eardrums out.
While the character of Amy is supposed to be annoying and less likeable than the other March sisters you could tell (and I have seen interviews with her) that Amy McAlexander is equally annoying and horrible in real life.
She has a horrible singing voice really, on that "it was amazing" song or w/e (when Amy and Laurie tell Jo of their engagement) she does this WEIRD thing on her high notes..she puts them into her nose and back of her throat or something.ANd the notes aren't even that high..they're like A s or something
