But we are only being told that these were the results, they could very easily pick why they want to go through each week and just pass it off as the home audience having given that contestant the most votes. I'm sure a lot of people would be angry if they were to find out later on that had been done. I've often wondered if American Idol hasn't done that in the past.
Because basically they cannot. Seriously.
A little TV show called "Twenty One" back in the 50s did some bad cheating and was caught. It was made into the movie "Quiz Show" back in 1994.
Basically after alot of Congressional Inquiries and such, all TV shows involving some form of audience involving competition (among other forms of competition that is more then one-person saying yay or nay at any rate) involve some form of regulation that the government can check up upon and does do to make sure everything is being done legally according to the rules and is hunky-dory.
Which is why back in American Idol Season 4 when they had that big stuff up with the phone numbers they had to re-run everything all over again that week just to make sure they would not be stepping into any grey territory.

The networks are VERY careful not to touch that third rail. They have neutral observers watching for any impropriety and a whole screw of lawyers (I can never remember, is it "a screw of lawyers" or "a shaft of lawyers"?) watching the production company's every move.

Oh no- the only thing worse than the fact that Becky's not being bumped up would have been if they made her be part of this show and then 'cut' her.

HAhaha, that would be priceless! I love Kbell.
I'm just glad that Seth is involved. That's gotta make it a bit better.

"Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"

Love Seth Rudetsky. Listen to him on Sirius and thoroughly enjoy his commentary. I guess someone wanted him to shorten his article, but (sorry Seth), thanks to Google Cache, the original last paragraph of the playbill article was...:
And, now, finally, here's the reason I'm surrounded by so many ladies as I type this. I got a gig on MTV as the vocal coach for the new reality series about Legally Blonde! I'm working with my friends Jerry Mitchell and Denis Jones, whom I first met on the '94 revival of Grease! We're back together again, but this time we're not so much right for the Greasers as we are for the Miss Lynch cover. This is gonna be a show filming the whole process of searching for the next Elle Woods….and, unlike the Grease reality show, the audience doesn't decide….Donald Trump does. Just jokin'! Jerry Mitchell, the director/choreographer, does. It's been very exciting to film so far, but let me remind all at-home viewers that the camera adds ten pounds…and my trip to Vermont added 20. We start airing April 14…more details next week!

Not only should they bump up Becky to Elle, but they should just let her play ALL the roles when everyone else leaves too. Make it a one-woman show. Since she's so friggin' awesome at whatever role she's playing.
If not, then ehh I'm still not ok with this reality show thing, but I know I'm gonna end up watching it anyway and it could be fun.
