Grease and Little Shop are overdone, but highly profitable. They ALWAYS sell well at high schools.
Good high school shows:
Godspell
South Pacific
Oklahoma
Once Upon a Mattress
Sugar
Bye Bye Birdie
Working
You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown
My Favorite Year
Fiddler on the Roof
The Music Man
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Into the Woods

if you have a small cast try something original like Pirates of Penzance. The scores are somewhat challenging so you need good vocalists. If you have a bigger cast and are daring do Les Mis...ive seen it done and it was wonderful. shows like Into the Woods and Little shop are really overdone.
HONK! is also a good highschool show

Posted: 8/20/04 at 4:38pmMy high school did Honk! my Freshman year and Anything Goes my Sophomore (I was in chorus for both). Both were great shows. We're doing Pippen this year, so I'm glad I've heard good things about it.

*to the tune of Rabbit Chasing* Pippin Pippin Pippin Pippin I heart Pippin!
That's a GREAT musical for a High School. A little too risque for Middle School etc.
Guys and Dolls is overdone in Middle and High School but oh god, it's SO FUN! I had a blast doing Guys and Dolls- Adeliade's a dream role.
*shifty eyes* I wanna do You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown! A LOT! Oh, and Forum.

@ mi skool jr yr we did "oh, calcutta!" i covered the alan rachins track as we did the original 1969 version of the sho
sr yr we did "hair" but it wuzn't so good because we had to change songs fr instence "sodomy" we changed to "some of my" and all the other words were changed and "hashish" became "heavenly hash" and we had to make it a song abt fudge, which wuzn't the orig idea @ ALL!

My school's done that I know of:
- Brigadoon
- Bye Bye Birdie
- Once Upon A Mattress
- Into the Woods (they had dancing trees!)
- Kiss Me, Kate
IN MY TIME THERE:
- Schoolhouse Rock, Live (Just a badly written show, and a bad idea for one)
- Little Shop of Horrors (the teacher split up the dentist's many parts and gave one per person, she also added a chorus and little parts. I was Dentist patient#1! )
- Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Cute, but the chorus doesn't sing a bit, don't do it if you want a happy chorus)
- Applause (this coming year!)

Some challenging school musicals...
"Ragtime": We were the first high school to obtain the rights to perform this.
"Chicago": Our high school production sold out every night and completely amazed everyone.

Posted: 8/21/04 at 12:47pmThe ones I've done at my current highschool are Guys and Dolls and The Pajama Game. I missed freshman year cause I moved in the middle. I was supposed to be Sandy in Grease in Cali but then we moved and I had to drop out obviously and then I missed auditions for the show here at my current school in NJ. This upcoming year we're doing Grease. We have no guys here and I'm not gonna get Sandy prolly cause "i'm too tall" for the guy who will get Danny. That's what my director told me about getting The Pajama Game with the leads.

Ugh--Byw Bye Birdie=death.
My school recently did Hair and it was amaaaaaaaaaaaazing. I doubt many high schools would allow Hair to be done,(and obviously we cut things out like colored spade and sodomy. And we didn't do the nude scene, although I did walk around naked backstage)but it's amazing. I love little shop and it may be overdone but it's still wicked awsome.
