"It's on YouTube, a legit site which BroadwayWorld has no affliation with. I wouldn't worry about it."

Considering the fact that there was a sticky thread that specifically said bootlegs off youtube are not allowed, I WOULD!

According to Diana's website her last day will be on May 21st. She will not be there on May 12th because of her concert in Atlanta. Hopefully, I will get to see Hairspray before she leaves.

Apparently she has just been extended to May 21. Your lucky day. Also as far as stunt casting I think she's doing aan awesome job. In fact she is out promoting Hairspray and Brooklyn on fox
http://www.foxnews.com/video2/launchPage.html?041306/041306_ff_degarmo&Diana%20Degarmo&FOX_Friends&From%20%27American%20Idol%27%20to%20Broadway%20star&Foxlife&-1&Diana%20Degarmo&Video%20Launch%20Page
Lets see any stunter run around town promoting their run.She is promoting Broadway nationaly great for everyone.

She also has been asked to return in September/october to Hairspray.

They are advertising that Diana is in the show, not only the radio ad but also MANY news stories and appearances on talk shows and the like, plus if you go to TKTS they have a Hairspray flyer that has HER face on it, as opposed to Tracy Turnblad's. I really don't think she would've even been considered for the role had it not been for her American Idol recognition...she really doesn't "look" the part of Penny, whether or not she can sing it. But that's just my opinion.

HBG, if Diana DeGarmo walked into a Hairspray audition, she would definitely be typed into the Penny category. I think she definitely looks the part.

She might have been "typed" into the Penny audition, but would she have been hired? There are plenty of other wonderful, funny women that can sing that could play the role and that look the part more than her. Anyone that says that her American Idol recognition didn't factor into her getting that role is fooling themselves. I'm not trying to be argumentative or whatever...like I said, this is just my opinion.

I think the correct person to ask would be the casting director, not Diana. She's not gonna know why she got cast.

E-mailing Diana/her mother about that would be a waste of time though (no offense).

Can someone please tell me how Diana doesn't look the part of Penny? She has to be white. She has to be young. She has to be thin (especially thinner than Tracy). She has to look like a believable dork. Did I miss anything? As far as I can tell, Diana fits all of those qualifications. I'm not saying being from Idol didn't help Diana get that audition, but she wouldn't have been cast in the role if she didn't impress the producers. It's a real added bonus that she has a little name recognition. I don't see what the big deal is anyway. I'd be angry if it was just stunt casting and she stunk in the role, but I think we should just be happy that with Diana, it seems to be more about talent than about fame.

Well of course she got cast cause of American Idol. She might have gotten cast eventually but the American Idol thing didn't hurt. Obviously she's wanting to be a legit musical theater actress. I heard she's good. I really liked the Amber on the Hairspray tour. She was so good and wow what a voice. I didn't really care for Kerry Butler's voice on the OBC. I usually like her, but I didn't think that she really did it quite as well as the girl on the tour.

ABoyLikeThat, I think she's too curvy to be Penny and too "ethnic looking." And I personally don't care for her performance...I think she overacts. But like I said twice already, that's my opinion. No one else has to agree with me.

I saw Diana in the role last week and she was absolutely amazing. She was the best Penny I've seen, and I saw Brooke Tansley, Jennifer Gambtese and Kerry Butler (DeGarmo may tie with Butler). She was delightfully hysterical and had that character doooooooowwwwwwwwwn.
Well you can ask her how she got the auditions for each. Go to the stage door or e-mail her dianadegarmo@aol.com.She does personally reply to many.
Seeing as how Diana has already explained why she auditioned and how it came about, I don't see why flooding Diana with more email would be considered a good idea. Diana herself credits AI with helping her get her foot in the door for many of her opportunities but also says the rest is up to her. Even she wouldn't deny she was able to audition for Hairspray because of AI.

I just emailed her telling her How excited I am for Brooklyn and how the show means so much to me.

It's usually her mom who answers the email but maybe since it's Diana's day off from Hairspray she'll answer you herself. From what she said in the Fox interview it sounds like she really likes the songs in Brooklyn and she already has the "cliff's notes" version of the storyline prepared for curious reporters. :)

If the producers asked her to come and audition for Hairspray it could be because there was on Jan 6 the playbill article that she got Brooklyn. http://www.playbill.com/news/article/97195.html
The Hairspray producers could have said recognizable name lets bring her in see if she's any good. Maybe we can use her in future. At least she's proven she's got talent to back up name recognition.

Its supposedly finally coming to London in the autumn of 2007 after a tour.

Its about time the West end production happens, before its too late

She is quite good from what I heard and she seems like she's having a good time from that clip of Fox News. I think she deserves all the success she's getting- after losing to Fantasia, she didnt do the whole Kelly thing, she chose a road that was different than what most Idols do (yes- Tamyra has done Bway, but she didnt get the push and she didnt have the whole runner up thing going...) Diana was awesome on the show and I hoped she'd go further than just an Idol contestant and she has, and she's remained humble, which is awesome.

One had nothing to do with the other. DeGarmo has said she auditioned for the Broadway show when the producers called her after finding out she had been looking into doing the movie. She auditioned for Hairspray in late 2005, around the same time she auditioned for Brooklyn.

Y'know..... I watched that Finish commercial for Hairspray a few times and it kinda grew on me. Say what you will, they've managed to keep the spirit of the show and the very "Americanness" of it quite well. Obviously, they have a much smaller budget and what with the very difficult translation into a Scandanavian language, which is not exactly a walk in the park...

I give them major props for what they've accomplished.

I fear I'll be forced to sit through far worse productions in this country before I die...
