I know I'm a Meredith Patterson freak...but why didn't they cast Meredith Patterson as Eileen in Wonderful Town? I saw it a month ago and Jennifer Westen or whatever was terrible! Did anyone see it with her? Who's the new girl? Please tell me she can sing! Meredith would've been PERFECT!
Jennifer Westfeldt would be her name. And she is/was quite fantastic.

Sorry I thought she was horrible. She can't sing. But just my opinion

Sorry...Meredith was Peggy Sawyer on Broadway...visit www.meredithpatterson.com and find out. :)
I was thinking the same thing Margo.
And, TapDancer, you think Jennifer Westfeldt can't sing?
Does having a classically trained voice now classify as bad singing these days?
With you all its belt, or nothing.

I don't care.

No its not about belting...its just she sounds like Mira Sorvino is Mighty Aphrodite....nasally and not of the 1940's style...doesn't matter she's gone anyway. Is the new girl good?
As much as I like 42nd Street (and I know who Meredith Patterson is), you have made a few posts about her in just minutes. Please, that is not necessary.
What's up with the tour being cancelled? Is the show that bad? Someone PM me with this.
Wonderful Town was never really a musical that was top on my list, but I've learned to appreciate a few of the songs ("Christopher Street," "Ohio," "A Little Bit in Love," "My Darlin' Eileen," and "Conga"), and was looking a little forward to the tour. Now other musicals are replacing Wonderful Town. The theater in my area added on Scrooge as an extra show for the subscription series. Now, instead of being an extra, it will be the replacement for Wonderful Town. Which is stupid, because that is in December and WT was supposed to be in April. I wish they would put something else in there.
After having seen Meredith many many times in 42nd Street, and unless she's done some freakishly amazing work on her upper range, I can safely tell you that she wouldn't be able to sing the score to Wonderful Town. That's not to say I don't think Meredith is talented; she was my favorite Peggy Sawyer until Nadine Isenegger, and I think she's a fierce tapper.

The tour was cancelled because the show was quickly going down hill. Plus, the Weissler's believe they can make more money by stunt casting on Broadway.
And, while on the topic, I wish Broadway in Boston would find a new show to replace WT...

Jennifer Hope Wills will be great!!!

I worked with Jennifer Hope Wills in one of her first New York appearances, an Equity Showcase Operetta revue, "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life..." at Theater Ten Ten. She is not only an absolutely amazing singer/performer, but a lovely person as well.
And beautiful...did I mention beautiful? (grin)

You are right. I saw Jennifer Hope Wills in "Grease" at PM and she was adorable and sexy at the same time and had a terrific voice. I'm glad she is getting this shot; she deserves it. I think she will be perfect and I can't wait to see her. I am also glad to see that Nancy Anderson will be leaving and heading to PM. She is another talented and beautiful girl. I guess there are lots of talented and beautiful girls on Broadway. Maybe that is why I go. Okay...now I sound like a big loser. I better quit.
edit- nevermind
Somebody must have deleted the other 2 Meredith posts because I don't see any sign of them.

i love meredith, but i agree that jennifer hope wills and jennifer westfeldt are both amazing.
Ok, I think Meredith Patterson was wonderful in 42nd Street. Met her aftewards and she was VERY nice... However, I disagree with you on Jennifer... She was great in this role... I wish she could have stayed longer in the role...

I wanted it to be Meredith too! That was my ideal casting. Though I do agree she probably wouldn't be able to go really high, but, then, neither could Jennifer (who I did really like in the role despite that).
But who's prettier? Kate or Meredith? Really now, I though this topic had finally gone away but I see "Newyorktapper" is baaack! Meanwhile, if Wills is the Sandy I saw at PM, I disagree with all the *raves*, I found her to be boring, unattractive and not a very good singer. Perhaps her voice might lend itself, more readily to Wonderful Town, as it didn't work in the least, for the pop stylings called for in Grease. Sorry DD :)

I agree that Jennifer doesn't have the best pop voice (I could never see her doing Rent, Aida, etc.)...although, she had a great mix and I found her voice singing those Grease songs to be a very refreshing change...very sweet...and to me fit the character much more than a big belter. From her website you can see that she is a classically trained singer and most of her roles have included high soprano roles so I think she is going to be terrific. How could you not think she was pretty Al Dente? They just had terrible wigs! She also has that incredible old fashioned look. I'm just glad they are giving someone new a chance.
