Eccentric star JOHNNY DEPP is so keen to work with CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY director TIM BURTON again, he has agreed to play a woman in the quirky film-maker's next movie.
Burton plans to dramatise the colourful life of legendary burlesque stripper GYPSY ROSE LEE - and Depp loves working with Burton so much he is prepared to don stockings and high heels in his desperate bid to grab the lead role.
He says, "The other day I said to Tim that I would shoot anything with him.
"And he said, 'Well, next I'm going to do the Gypsy Rose Lee story.
"I said: 'Can I play Gypsy Rose?' And he said: 'Yeah.' So I said, 'I'm in!'"
It most likely is just a silly joke, but now it has me thinking of Johnny Depp as Gypsy. I know it would be a dramatic version of the show, but seriously now I have the image in my head of Captain Jack Sparrow singing "Let Me Entertain You"

Posted: 7/20/05 at 2:24amThat would be a riot. Personally I think he deserves an Oscar this year after losing for his rightful oscar in Pirates and not winning for Finding Neverland (though Jamie Foxx did deserve it)

I wanted to get something that an "ex"-junkie like him would really appreciate and cherish....it's a brick of heroin shaped like a heart.

Posted: 7/20/05 at 11:42amWhile I think this specific role may have been a bit of a joke, I know I read in an interview somewhere that he'd love the challenge of playing a woman. I don't think he was really joking w/ that comment. It certainly would be interesting.

Depp is already in Burton's next movie (animated). The Corpse Bride which comes out this September.
