Question: In comparison to an orchestra seat, how is the mezannine section?

I've been to 5 Broadway shows but only ever sat in Orchestra, never further back than Row X.... all, of course, were excellent views.

However, how is the perspective from up top? Still the same? Is the show just as enjoyable? Am I close enough to still see everything well?

I mostly ask with Wicked in mind... a show I just bought mezannine seats for. What, if any, will be different about sitting up in mezannine and how is the overall experience still?

thx!

I sat in the mezzanine (3rd row) for Wicked. They aren't bad seats. It's nice to see the show from a different view.

It seems so far away, but it isn't. Even if you were sitting in the Rear Balcony, it would still be ok.

Don't worry.

Anyone know about the Marguis Theatre? I am trying to buy Drowsy tickets...is row B too close? Am I going to have limited views?

I also want to get tickets for Spring Awakening...how is the mezzanine there?

Thanks in advance!

I sat in Row B when I saw Drowsy, and it would have been fine had I not been all the way on the side. As it was, some of the (fantastic) set wasn't visible, but almost all of the actual actors were completely visible at all times. If you are closer to the center, I doubt you'll have anything limited.

As for Spring Awakening, while I've never seen it from the mezzanine, I saw Sweeney Todd in the Eugene O'Neill from the very last row, in the corner, and had no trouble with it whatsoever. Everything was completely visible. And, considering how sparse the SA set is, I would think you'd be perfectly fine. The show might even be improved by your impaired view of the huge clouds of spit flying out of the otherwise adorable Jonathan Groff's mouth :)

I sat in Row A of the Marquis' mezzanine for The Woman in White...it's one heluva view. You're very close, yet you also get a nice full picture of the stage.

How to properly use its/it's: Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...

I find that I prefer orchestra for most shows -- I think it has to do with being on the same level as the performers, you feel like you're right there with them as opposed to the detached view you get from up above. It depends on the exact placement, though. From some locations in the orchestra you might be looking up, others you might be looking down. But in general I still prefer it to the mezz.

Many others would disagree with me, though, because the mezz often gives a better view of choreograpy and overall staging.

I've sat in various parts of the theatre for a variety of shows, and for me, where I prefer to sit depends on the type of show I'm watching. I feel I get the best experience sitting in the front of the orchestra for small, intimate shows like Grey Gardens or Company where the main focus of the show is the actors. For big shows like Beauty and the Beast, I prefer sitting in the mezzanine. When I sit too close, I feel like the special effects have less of an impact on me. Part of the magic of the show is viewing the entire thing at the same time, and it's hard to do that when you're too close to the stage and can only focus on a few things at a time.

I sat in row B mezz, center, for Spring Awakening, after having already seen it once before, and the view was totally perfect, you should def check it out from the mezz. Well the front mezz at least- I've never sat in the rear mezz.

I will give you the warning, though, that there is NO leg room in that front mezz section- I am barely 5'7" and my knees were all up in the back of the head of the guy in front of me. My 6'1" friend trying to sit next to me was just pure comedy.

I've sat in Right mezz row D for SPRING and felt so far away.

I sat in Row E on the right for SWEENEY and felt close.

For SPRING, my favorite out of the 5 seats I have had have been center orchestra row C.

I also loved the house right mezzanine box. Updated On: 3/17/07 at 02:22 PM

Ha, sat there, too.

I've been in Box B on the right, and it reminded me of the extreme right orchestra, which is where Student Rush is.

Buy, full view seats for your first time, unless rushing.
The Box's are nice and close to the stage, but the right side is pretty much covered.
