Oh my gosh, that's brilliant! I'm putting that in my next program!
I agree with everyone, especially Don't Talk, Don't Sing along, and Don't sleep!
Also don't get sick of your gum and stick it under your seat. Ewwww...

For God's sake stop cracking your damn GUM!!!!

This reminds me of a scene we staged in a recent production of "Anyone Can Whistle" that I was in. During "The Interrogation" we had a part where we made fun of all the bad audience behavior.... loud talking, cell phones, bumping the seat in front of you; I had to make out with someone... we even had one lady with a GIANT prop celophane-wrapped candy. She just sat there and crinkled and crinkled... lol. That was fun!

But anyways, I second everything already mentioned.

Thank you to those who mentioned keeping your shoes on..very bad experience with that.

One thing I need to disagree with. Of course I COMPLETELY agree no one should sing along but someone mentioned there should be no lip synching. I don't really agree with that, I'll admit to doing it quite often. I mean when my friend won DRS lotto and I saw it for the fourth time, I almost mouthed the wwords but then I was like they'll see me, I shouldn't do that. otherwise though...I never even think anyone notices. I'll go see Rent, Wicked or some of my other favorites with a friend and I'll mention I was mouthing the whole time and they're sitting next to me and don't even notice. I dunno, if I know the song/show, it's just kinda habit, hard to not.

And if you're bringing a group of kids(field trip, couple of families...) do not provide them each with a plastic bag of different food such as chips, popcorn, etc. Very bad experience last performance of Little Women.

eh, I think lip synching is okay. As LONG as you're not bobbing your head around crazily (that's annoying). If you're barely moving your lips, probably no one will even notice.

I agree 2,000% with the rest of the stuff you guys have said.

About a hundred years ago (when I was little) all children were taught all of these things at home. They never had to step into a theatre and they knew the basics before they ever set foot in a school. They actually only had one rule to remember. They used to call it the 'golden rule' to make it easier for the kids to remember, but basically what they learned was CONSIDERATION. Being considerate of the people sitting around you, considerate of the cast and orchestra, considerate of the people working in the theatre. Simply being considerate of everyone you dealt with in society.

Please do not conduct acts of personal hygiene(sp) in the theater. At Mamma Mia in SF we sat next to a young lady who took the time before curtain to clean her toes.

Which naturally leads to rule 2: Keep your shoes on.

Oh yeah, don't lean forward, I don't understand the physics of it but oddly enough you double in body mass and it is impossible to see around you.

Don't try to read your program during the show. Again, it's impossible to see around you and your program. Justme2 and I have a friend who did this on a consistent basis. Apparently she hasn't done it in a while so I think we broke her of it.

JimmyOJimmy...I actually saw Hairspray quite recently...May 25th. My friend and I had just lost the Wicked lottery and we went to Hairspray to see if we could make it before they stopped taking names for their lottery. We got to the theatre and nobody was around so we asked they guy at the box office if there was going to be a ticket lottery that day. His response was "well we had one but no one showed up so do you want to buy two lottery tickets". So we did and were in the back row of the balcony. As soon as we got up there and saw all the kids in the balcony we knew it was going to be terrible. I couldn't get over how rude these kids were...
I really enjoyed the show though. I liked it better when I saw it in Toronto, but it was good on bway too. My friend and I spent the entire week in NY and saw a show every day...Wicked, Hairspray, Avenue Q, La Cage, Brooklyn, Mamma Mia, Charity and Rent. I actually won the Rent lottery on the Monday...our last day there...and my first lottery win. We lost the Bee lottery so many times (but still got tickets to Brooklyn an Charity). There were also a student group at La Cage and they were very well behaved. I was very impressed.
