Posted: 6/21/06 at 10:18amI am sure that there has been dozen of threads about this but I could only find one and it was only about one specific tour. So...forgive me. I was wondering if people could list the various theatre tours available in New York. Also, how to get tickets.

Posted: 6/21/06 at 8:14pmI know there is a walking tour that you can buy tickets for in the information center in Times Square - I did it and it was a lot of fun, not really because of the tour but because the tour guide was a real hoot. We walked around and learned a lot about the history of different theatres, and got to go inside two (The Al Hirschfeld and... another one that I'm blanking on) but he said the theatres they go to change every now and then. But really, the best part was the guide. He was so funny.

I think I went on the same as lamentingenvelope in 2004...the Broadway Open House Tour. The information given on the tour was nothing knew (I knew most of it already from being on this board) but actually going inside the two theatres not during a performance was cool. We went inside the The Al Hirschfeld Theatre and the St. James Theatre. My mom and I (we were the only ones on the tour) got the 2004 Tony Awards windowcard for answering a quiz question

I took the Behind the Emerald Curtain Tour, and I loved it. Wicked swing Anthony Galde and Madame Morribile understudy Gaelen Gilliland led the tour the day I took it. You spend half of the tour in the upper lobby (Where there is a museum-like setup of costumes, props, and lots of production pictures. The other half is spent in the auditorium, they show you a video about the production of Wicked. They also have a Q&A session, and an exclusive Behind the Emerald Curtain Tour poster you can buy at the gift shop afterwards.

There is a wonderful tour called Backstage on Broadway. You can get info on it at the Times Square Information Station next to McDonalds by the Palace Theatre in TS. It takes you to a few. It starts early if I remember correctly and they may have changed things.
WICKED: BEHIND THE EMERALD CURTAIN and DRS (I think DRS still does one) have nice individual tours. THE LION KING one is neat as well.
Have fun
