I was reading an article in which they referred to Guettel, Tesori, Brown and La Chiusa as "post modernist" composers in musical theatre. If this is the case, what are the historical classifications of other popular composers?

BSoBW2: I punched Sondheim in the face after I saw Wicked and said, "Why couldn't you write like that!?"

There aren't any. It just sounds classier to call them "post- modernist" as opposed to "the new guys". Of the living, working composers, I'd just call Sondheim, Lloyd Webber, Herman, Strouse, Schwartz and Kander "the old guys", and Bill Finn and Stepehn Flaherty "the middle guys".

Well, then, of course there are all the dead guys, too.

post modernism is just an interim term until we have something else to call it. Thery're not part of the modernist movement, but that's all these works have in common.
