Theatrical Composer Historical Classifications

Posted: 6/22/05 at 11:42pmI was reading an article in which they referred to Guettel, Tesori, Brown and La Chiusa as "post modernist" composers in musical theatre. If this is the case, what are the historical classifications of other popular composers?

Posted: 6/23/05 at 7:26amThere aren't any. It just sounds classier to call them "post- modernist" as opposed to "the new guys". Of the living, working composers, I'd just call Sondheim, Lloyd Webber, Herman, Strouse, Schwartz and Kander "the old guys", and Bill Finn and Stepehn Flaherty "the middle guys".

Well, then, of course there are all the dead guys, too.
