Alright, here's one for the REAL hard core trivia buffs!
We know that Sondheim is the voice of Rose's father on the original GYPSY album, and that Harold Arlen dubbed in one note for Diahann Carroll on the "I Never Has Seen Snow" track in HOUSE OF FLOWERS. Now go to your OBC album of THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG and listen to "When You're in My Arms". The final line is not sung by Lucie Arnaz. Can you guess who the uncredited female vocalist is?
Carol Bayer Sager?
A famous singer who has nothing to do with the show.
Um....Dolly Parton?
No, but someone who has starred in a Broadway show herself....
Bingo!
Was this common knowledge? I only heard this today for the first time.
I ran across this tidbit years ago but I can't remember where I read it. I then posted on RATM and here's the response I received from Larry Blank who was musical director of the Broadway production:
"Eydie Gorme sang the last few notes on WHEN YOUR IN MY ARMS. because it was not really in Lucie's range. . . In the theatre it didn't matter. . but would've been noticeable on a recording. . . "
Great! Now I have three Eydie Gorme recordings.
I always wondered about that...!
I've never heard of her. Hmmm...
Spider:
You better blame THAT on the Bossa Nova.
