I just got back from a week in NYC. I got to see 8 shows and I loved them all, here are my thoughts on each show:
The Light in the Piazza(Friday 17 8:00) My first show and ended up as one of my favorites. The music is so beautiful and the performances were wonderful. Victoria Clark was wonderful I was very glad to have seen her performance live. Katie Clarke did not disappoint me, very lovely. Aaron Lazar was also amazing as Fabarizio(I know I spelled that wrong-to lazy to check right now), he did a great job as a love stricken Italian boy truly in love with Clara. I loved all the supporting roles as well. The sets were also amazing. After a day of traveling and almost missing my connecting flight(I hate the Dallas Airport, never flying in there again) this was the perfect way to end a day and start my vacation.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee(Saturday 2:00):
*Spoilers*
I got SRO tickets for this and ended up with third row seats on the side when a woman couldn't sell a block of tickets she had. Wonderful seats for this show. Jesse Tyler Ferguson was out but the understudy was still great as Leaf Coneybear, he was one of my favorite characters, he was just so odd, and lovable because of it. Sarah Saltzberg as Logainne Schwartzandgrubinierre was my other favorite character and I felt really bad for her when she lost, it was really touching. Everyone else had great performances. It was a very fun and upbeat show.
Forbidden Broadway SVU(Saturday 8:30) Very funny, great songs. I loved the Light in the Piazza segment, when Margret walks out with the leaves being thrown at her, when she says that Clara can only do simple mathematics. Sweeney Todd part was also great. I think they sung "Squeaky Todd the Demon Barber of Broadway"? I might just be putting words into blank areas in my mind because it was a long trip. Beauty's been decreased, The Pajama Game, and Jersey Boys parodies were very funny as well.
Hairspray(Sunday): I won the lotto and had front row seats off to the very side, I was very glad that I didn't missed a lot I had a blocked view for a few minutes at a time but other than that they were great seats. All the actors were great. Another good upbeat show.
Hairspray(Sunday 6:30)Tried the lotto and won, first row left side seats. Fun, bright, big show. Great performances by everyone.
Chicago(Monday 8:00)I got rush seats for this one and was front row very last seat on the left side. For this show it was still a good seat, I had an actor lunge out towards me in Razzle Dazzle. If you do get side seats, the action takes place to the left or right or in the center of the stage and you will see fine. Everyone, again, was great Monday night. I loved all the dancing and the singing, which is what is this production is about.
DRS(Tuesday 7:00) I saw this last year with the OBC, I loved it then and still love. I like Jonathan Pryce better than I liked Lithgow, I think that Pryce being English makes the character more realistic as a charming cunning older Englishman that women would throw themselves at. Norbert and Joanna still great in there rolls. Mylinda Hull- she came off as a that Southern woman that most people think of when they think of the South. She was loud and rude and obnoxious. Rachel York was a great Christine.
Doubt(Wednesday 2:00) Student Rush ticket and it was forth row center, good deal. I liked this show but don't have a lot to say about it other than great actors and the show made you think, you have to pay attention throughout the show. Do I think Father Flynn did something? I've come to think that he didn't do anything at the school to the black boy but I think he might have done something in time and that at another school he did something.
Sweeney Todd(Wednesday 8:00) This is now my favorite show. After seeing this I can't stop listening to the cast recording. It is a wonderful show and so different from anything I have seen. I noticed that when Johanna is singing "Green Finch..." there would be a light on a doll in a cage on the wall in the back round. And when Judge Turpin is singing or talking a cross on the wall would be lit up. I loved how if you watched Tobias you could tell he is reliving these scenes, he would mouth lines, act scared or horrified when something would happen to a character, I saw that he sniffed when someone would walk by him like he was trying to recognize them. The cast is amazing.Manoel Felciano(very detailed, I really wanted to hug him and comfort him), Patti LuPone(twisted),Michael Cerveris(Very sad, I felt sorry for Sweeney),Donna Lynne Champlin(Dark, I found her disgusting when acting as Pirelli), Alexander Gemignani(liked his take on the Beadle)Benjamin Magnuson(very sweet performance) Mark Jacoby,Luaren Molina, and Diana DiMarzio also wonderful. Now it's my favorite show.
Also was anyone from this board at Sweeney Wednesday night? I was sitting by someone(fourth row center) who was talking about Manoel at intermission and it sounded very likely that that person could have been from here. Just curious.
Thanks for everyone who read all this.

I'm glad you enjoyed Sweeney :)
That wasn't me, or anyone I know. What did they say that made you think they were from this board? Just curious.

Posted: 3/25/06 at 1:35amAbout the person who I thought might be from the board: Durring intermission there was this girl with two other women and the girl was asking if the other were liking it. They said yes and the girl said something like "Did you see Mano mouthing the lines?" and then her and the other two women were talking about the actors spitting and she said that Manoel's spitting was cute, sarcastically. I just thought that chances are good she probably chaeks some broadway website.
