I'm going to NY this coming week and haven't read anything about these plays on here. I'm a huge off broadway straight play kind of guy and also really like more experimental/avant-garde kind of work. Any thoughts? My wishlist includes Once, Other Desert Cities, Warhorse, and Russian Transport. Any other opinions are greatly appreciated!

Hey. I actually just saw Assistance last night, a friend of mine that I was with wanted to see it, and I decided to see it with her. I literally knew nothing about this play, so I went in with absolutely no expectations. I actually was very pleasantly surprised with the play. It's a fast paced comedy that takes place in an office. I thought it was very smart. It's one of those situations that when you are experiencing it in the moment, it's so not funny; but sitting back and watching it it's funny because you know the pain and panic the characters are going through. And the acting was just amazing, I esp loved the actress who played Nora. And the ending is so unexpected, it was really just an enjoyable show. I def highly recommend catching this show before it closes this Sunday.

Also, I saw Other Desert Cities too, I wouldn't recommend that one as highly, but that's just my personal tastes. I felt this show was a bit predictable in the way it builds. But my friend who saw it with me didn't see it coming at all and he really enjoyed it.

So with those two shows, they are completely different from one another. It just depends on what you are in the mood for. I haven't seen anything else, so I can't comment on them. But I'm sure what ever you see you will have a great time! :)

I saw Hurt Village, Assistance, and Blood Knot. Of those I'd say Hurt Village is the must see. It's a sprawling, difficult play about a world rarely seen onstage. I love that Signature Theatre spent all that money on a new space and then booked two shows about poverty that covered the stage with garbage.

I doubt you can get tickets to that or Blood Knot though. That's what $25 tickets and good reviews will do for you.

Blood Knot was very good. I found Scott Shepard to be a very engaging actor. The design is fantastic and the last scene is absolutely chilling.

Can I make a pitch for Tribes? I saw it last night on a $20 student rush ticket. It's one of those shows that's gotten under my skin, where I walked out not knowing how I felt about the show, but as the day has gone on keep thinking about it more and more. I like those sorts of shows.

Of course, absolutely go to see Once if you get a ticket. I saw it at NYTW and absolutely loved it. I hope the show has maintained its spirit in the transfer.
