I have the opportunity to go to NYC for a few days over Christmas, and I'm currently buying tickets for shows. Does anybody have a sense if there will be discounted tickets over the holidays for shows that generally are not selling well? For example, On the Town is not tearing it up at the box office, and they have blacked out days (rightfully so...) during that week. Am I silly to wait it out to see if something comes up, or should I book now to ensure that I get a ticket. I would hate to buy a ticket today and have the same ticket on sale for a better price in a week or so. Thoughts?

My best advice would be waiting until the week of and seeing what Today Tix has. If you aren't familiar, it is a great mobile app that gets the best discounts to Broadway and then hand delivers you your tickets by the theater. Great service, i've never had any issues with it-always great seats. They have just about everything but Mormon, Elephant Man, It's Only A Play-show that already sell out. If you use my referral code "CJJSO" you will get $20 off your order!
On the Town was blacked out for discounts this past Saturday night. We walked up to the box office on Friday afternoon (were in the city for T-day weekend) and gave the agent the Theatermania discount code/sheet that we had printed out, she punched a few keys, told us "just a sec", disappeared, then came back with 2 seats in Row N on the side (11 and 13, IIRC) at $89/each. We were very pleased with the seats. Everything to our right (towards the outside aisle) was empty, especially behind us.
