ON the sixth day of rehearsal for "Miracle Brothers," a new musical set in 17th-century Brazil, the director, Tina Landau, was talking to her cast about the television show "Miami Vice."
"So there was apparently this guy on the show whose job it was to go between the various departments to say if something" - a line of dialogue or a piece of wardrobe - "was 'Vice' or not 'Vice,' " said Ms. Landau, who got a laugh or two from her cast of 12. "That's what we're going to be doing over the next few days - defining what's 'Miracle Brothers' and what's not 'Miracle Brothers.' We're building a vocabulary, so that we don't have 12 people in 12 different shows."
