I disagree. There is nothing hateful in my reviews. I am just tired seeing penises on-stage. But maybe you don't go to enough shows to appreciate my point of view.

1) there has been plenty of female nudity on broadway. the graduate, and rocky horror come to mind immediately.

2) shows move from off broadway to broadway because theres a demand for tickets that cant be met in theaters so small, not so that they can add sets.

Mistress_Spouzic,

I cannot remember the last time I saw female nudity on-Broadway. Of course, the Graduate (wow) went on tour a couple of years ago and I caught that one. Those shows are quite old though. Please tell me some newer ones playing on-Broadway now. Lestat? La Cage? Now, I hear the Drowsy Chaparone? (yuck)

There's this article from the NYTimes that explains why shows move to Broadway. It is not because they need more space. To become eligible for the Tony, you need to play in a certain zone and in a theatre that has greater than a certain number of seats. The Tony award, the article says, is no more that advertisement for prime real-estate. But the content (like watching somone hang themself) are not appropriate for the general public and to be so prominately displayed on-Broadway. Doesn't anyone agree with me on that?

yes, of course people move to broadway because it makes a show tony eligible (as opposed to say, moving a show to a giant college theater) but youre ignoring the economics of producing. You cant move a show to bway unless it has an audience and you shouldnt keep a show in a 200 seat theater if youre booked solid through next year. And once youre in a bigger theater, youve got more unions to please and a bigger rent to pay and so prices go up.

And aside from Wedding Singer with a scantily clad Felicia and a hidden suggestive sex scene in Jersey Boys, I cant think of a current running show with any nudity worth speaking of at all- male or female. Of course I havent seen every single thing, but my list of "seen" is longer than my list of "not seen" This year seems pretty family friendly.

Ya. There seems to have been a push for family-oriented musicals this last season. Maybe my reviews at the NYTimes had an effect...? :)

Ya, most heterosexual stuff is usually only suggestive.

Most of my reviews at my site were from 2004-2005. I've been going to OPERA lately and small theatre productions instead of Broadway. I basically fell in love with Renee Fleming in Rodelinda.

Speaking of good small productions, SPF at theatrerow is starting next month. I have never seen a bad show among them. I think that they are hosted by Columbia drama students. The shows are very inexpensive and memorable.

It's your views and comments here which are hateful. Your reviews are, quite frankly, laughable. Poorly written, misspellings, very pedestrian analysis. Do you honestly expect anyone with a brain in their head is going to believe that any professional critic would have an interest in 'dipping' into your reviews. You're delusional, as well as a bigot. And as far as seeing enough shows. I've seen every show which has run on Broadway for the past ten years, and almost every off-Broadway show, so don't try and pull that card on me. You don't know what you're talking about with your off-Broadway to Broadway move comments either.

Erinrebecca:

As I suspected, you are a hardcore theatre lover and I don't expect that you would appreciate my reviews (not analysis, there is a difference). Yes, mine are very pedestrian oriented, for the unsuspecting tourist.

Yes, they are meant to make you laugh. In your case, I suspect indisgust.

Why does a show have to play on-Broadway to be eligible for the Tony? Isn't there good theatre elsewhere too?

Ill take a wild guess that its partly because its presented by The League of American Theaters and Producers, and The League’s members are theatre owners and operators, producers, presenters and general managers of Broadway.

There are other awards for off broadway and even an awards show that celebrates both.
