Hi all
I'm planning a trip to NYC in late June/early July and was hoping I could get some advice.
I'm currently deciding which shows to book in advance at full price, which to book when discounts become available for the time I'll be there, but still in advance, and which to go to tkts or do rush/lotto for.
The shows I'm planning are August Osage County, Hair, Next to Normal, Shrek, West Side Story, 9 to 5 and The Wiz. Some 'Maybes' right now are Chicago, Guys and Dolls, Rock of Ages, South Pacific and In the Heights.
SO far I've booked for 9 to 5 at full price (I'm not sure if that was sensible or not but it's my top priority show!), and was wondering which others people thought would be worth doing this for, and which I should get on discount or wait until I'm there for. I was thinking West Side Story, Next to Normal and Hair should probably be booked now at full price as discounts advance or day-of tickets might be harder to come by? Seeing as I'll be there a couple of weeks after the Tonys, and over 4th July weekend, they could both have an effect too.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

If you decide to see it, book South Pacific because discounts are practically non-existent for this show. West Side Story is also a hot ticket.
Shows like Guys and Dolls and Chicago will have discounts.
9 to 5 currently has a discount if you want to book your tickets now. Hair also has a discount but it runs out before your trip. I got Shrek discounted tickets. The show hasn't been selling terribly well, so I feel as if a discount will be available for when you want to see it.

nytix has a South Pacific discount that's only available Tuesday through Thursday. It runs out on May 21 though. But they had the same discount available last month so I wouldn't be surprised to see the same discount pop up once this one runs out.
As Millie said 9 to 5 does have a discount though I fully expect that to vanish once the reviews are in. That happened with South Pacific. They had a discount, got great reviews, and the discount was gone.

Because 9 to 5 is going to get across-the-board raves?
You should be able to find a discount for Next to Normal. South Pacific is absolutely worth paying full price -- and if you want to see it, you'll probably have to. I would get your Hair tickets in advance, too, if you definitely want to see it, but look for a discount. (Though I think it's worth shelling out some cash for, too.)

"Because 9 to 5 is going to get across-the-board raves?"
From what I've seen I wouldn't be shocked.

Thanks for all the help so far.
I think I'll book (at full price in advance) for 9 to 5 and West Side Story. I saw South Pacific last year but am quite curious to see the replacement cast, but perhaps not curious enough to shell out full price.
Hair and Next to Normal, I could wait a bit for a possible discount, does that seem viable? At full price right now I get excellent Next to Normal seats, and ok Hair seats for the days that I'm there, so might err on the side of caution with Hair and go full price.
Shrek I think I'll wait for a discount or possibly rush/tkts it when I'm there.
Any ideas on those above, or any of the other shows I've mentioned?
