Posted: 11/9/03 at 12:11pmAnyone out there in Chicago ? I was wondering how the old Oriental theater in the loop is doing since Livent ( there is a trip down memory lane)renovated it. I know it was a gorgeous old picture palace & was in it a few times. How does it look these days ? I believe almost every theater in the Loop is gone except the Oriental & Chicago. Is this true ?

yea i live in chicago. there are other theatres in the loop besides the oriental and chicago. Theres the palace theatre(where aida had its world premire), and the shubert theatre (where movin out had its world premire). The Oriental, palace, nd shubert is owned by Broadway In Chicago, those three theatres basically play touring shows, world premires, nd special events. The Orental nd palace are very nice theatres (a lot better than some broadway houses), theyre big but u feel close. you can go to www.broadwayinchicago.com

Posted: 11/9/03 at 1:25pmYes, the city has made a huge push for the Theatre district and renovated a number of houses. Not to mention the beautiful new Goodman Theatre complex. All the theatres are really beautiful. And let's not forget the Lyric Opera House. It is stunning.

The loop & Chicago in general has lost many beautiful theaters over the years. The list is long. Here is a partial list:
1. United Artists
2. Mc Vickers
3. State Lake
4. Marboro
5. Granada
6. Southtown
7. Tivoli
8. Belmont
9. Roosevelt
I understand the Uptown is in a precarious state as well
