Kitty Carlisle Hart 09/03/1910 - Apr 17, 2007 performer & cabaret artist, Wife of Moss Hart (1946 - 1961) his death; Served as chairperson of the New York State Council of the Arts for 20 years beginning in 1976. In that capacity, she functioned as one of the nation’s most visible advocates for and symbols of the performing arts. 1189 England's King Richard I (the Lion-Hearted) was crowned in Westminster.

1967 - After 17 years, What’s My Line aired for the final time on CBS-TV. The host of the show was John Daly. Panelists on the first show were: Dorothy Kilgallen, Louis Untermeyer, Dr. Richard Hoffman and New Jersey Governor Harold Hoffman. Arlene Francis and Bennett Cerf joined the show a short time later. Kilgallen, Cerf and Francis were the continuing regulars for fifteen years. Fred Allen, Hal Block and Steve Allen served as panelists for short stints at different times.

1991 Movie director Frank Capra died at age 94.

2002 Ted Ross, the big-voiced actor who won a Tony Award for playing The Cowardly Lion in the Broadway musical, The Wiz, a performance he later recreated in the film, dies today at age 68.
