It's also the birthday of Jean-Louis Barrault, star of stage and screen, but mostly stage. Truly a Man of the Theatre, Barrault also starred in the film that critics have hailed as the greatest film of all time: Les Enfants du Paradis (Children of Paradise). Oddly enough, this film is about theatre and theatre people...as well as jealousy, revenge, corruption, lust, manipulation, classism, suffering, love and the need to put whiny, little intellectuals in their place.

Jean-Louis Barrault is my favorite actor of all time, and he appears in my favorite film of all time. (And someone should change the stupid Wikipedia entry about him because his birthday is September 8, not September 9.)

It is just for impassioned responses like those remembering posters' special birthdays/events that I put up Today's Birthdays.

I admit that I know virtually nothing about M. Barrault & will now put his Les Enfants du Paradis (Children of Paradise) on my "look for" list.

There is no greater tribute one can pay on St. Barrault's Day than to introduce someone to that film.
