Okay, this man really cannot sing...(seeing him as Bobby made me realize even more what an incredible talent Hunter is) but I have never witnessed such genuine sweetness and friendliness at a stage door before.
There was such a huge mob waiting for him, and he took the time out to talk personally to each and every fan, signed full messages in their playbills, and was just too cute. When Spencer Kayden and James Barbour came out, Tom cheered for them and announced their names. He told Grandfather-type jokes to people and just comes off as such a lovable dork.
Don't think he's made for musical theatre, but you can tell he LOVED being up there and the rest of the cast seemed to be enjoying him.
I completely agree. I didn't think he sang very well, but he has a great personality, and it shines through on the stage. I wish I could have seen Hunter in the role.
Oh well; at least I have the OBC recording.
I thought Tom was awful in singing. The only high point for him was "Run Freedom, Fun", because you could tell that he was really, really trying.

When does Tom leave the show. Singing aside, I'd like to see him in the role. (I think he's a cutie!)
Cavanagh leaves Urinetown this Sunday, July 6. Hunter Foster returns to the role of Bobby Strong on July 8.
Also leaving this Sunday: James Barbour, who was a three week replacement for Jeff McCarthy as Officer Lockstock, while McCarthy did The Music Man in Ft. Worth. McCarthy will be back on Tuesday, July 8.
Original cast member Jennifer Laura Thompson also leaves Sunday, with Amy Spanger (Kiss Me, Kate, tick...tick...BOOM!) taking over the role of Hope Cladwell on Tuesday, July 8.

Woa! Does this mean Hunter is out of "Little Shop"?

We saw Amy go into the theatre while we were rushing...I love that girl, I'd love to see her play Hope, but I don't know if I can go see Urinetown again any time soon when there are so many more shows I HAVE to see :)
PJ, yup, the whole Little Shop cast is being recast.
And I forgot to mention, the EYES on Tom are unbelievable...and his big, genuine smile....he was just adorable. I told him I was a fan of his since his "dog days". (He played a man on Providence about 5 years ago who thought he was a dog.)
No, not at all. He's still up for the role, but will do Urinetown in the interim.

If you want to see Amy do the role (and I also recommend you see the show with Hunter and Jeff), try the rush seats. $25, last row of the orchestra. The seats are excellent, and actually preferable to the more expensive balcony seats.
"Hunter Foster returns to the role of Bobby Strong on July 8."
That just made my day! And Jeff McCarthy is coming back too! Even better! Is Carolee still in it? Cause if I can see all three of them together, that would be awesome.

If anyone finds out how long Hunter will be around, please post it. I want to come in town to see him do the role again, and I'd like to know what kind of a time frame I have.
Carolee Carmello is still in Urinetown.
If Hunter ends up doing Little Shop, his time with Urinetown will be somewhere around six to eight weeks, as Little Shop, I believe, plans to start performances in late August/early September?

I completely agree with EVERYTHING that is said concerning Tom Cavanaugh. I really enjoyed "Urinetown" last week;however, Mr. Cavanaugh did experience some major singing problems. He was a delight at the stage door. Thanks for the info on Hunter Foster! Will try to see the show again. It was truly entertaining!!!
Hunter has won the role of Seymour in LSOH. He will only be in Urinetown for 2-3 weeks.

It hardley seems worth Hunter's time to return to URINETOWN.

The arrangement with Urinetown was made before he knew if he even had a job with Little Shop.
