With 6000 seats to fill, you bet it's open to the public. There aren't THAT many agents, producers, family members etc... who want to attend. However, those seats for the public go fast (didn't I read that they sold out within hours of going on sale?). They're also expensive ($150 this year?).
You might check the box office for cancellations -- there'll probably be some.

Posted: 6/3/05 at 5:31pmI think $150 at least. Someone here got tickets and couldn't go and was trying to resell his/her tickets for what he paid. I believe it was rear mezz for around $388.

Wow, you're right. That's CRAZY:
"Tickets to the annual awards presentation at Radio City Music Hall will go on sale after the announcement of this year's nominations. Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster; those interested in attending the telecast should call (212) 307-4544. A link to purchase Tony tickets is also available on the official Tony Awards website at www.tonyawards.com.
Tickets for the Tony Awards are priced $129.50 or $379.50, including a $4.50 service charge. Seats will be available in the first, second and third mezzanines of Radio City Music Hall."

Margo, those are last year's prices. This year it's $179.50 - US $404.50.
Nice jump. And they're still sold out.

Posted: 6/3/05 at 5:48pmThe ONLY way I'd be interested in going to the Tonys would be if I had chance to leave with an award -- or at least a gift bag. $400 to have a REALLY bad view of something you can see better and for free on television? I don't get it.....

wow, those are pricy!!! and actually... i didn't even know someone could buy tickets to the tony's, i thought it was all "industry" -- that's something to keep in mind for next year!
however, i was asking about tickets to the benefit at barney's for god's love we deliver (from the news item). i've tried and haven't been able, so it might actually be a "closed" event by invite only.
margochanning, i love your quote! it brought a smile and a lot of great memories, from a great movie, back when 13 nominations for a film had nothing to do with hype.
