Was there for the mess yesterday also, the weirdest part to me was there was a student lotto in 2009, and as far as I remember, it went fine. They did it indoors at the Times Square information center, so you didn't have a huge line blocking all the theaters and restaurants and they had a microphone system already in place, so you could hear fine. They distributed lotto tickets by having you show your student ID, and then gave you your ticket, which were those carnival tickets that come on a huge roll, so they didn't run out of tickets. I guess it was kind of annoying they had to read out numbers instead of names, but it worked way more smoothly.
